Hey it can go both ways, but recent stuff here local does put a big question on help.

A dude lost it, been drinking for two days and said he was gonna kill himself, so the family called for help, He was passed out with a shotgun across his lap when they arrived and when the flashbang went off he flinched and so they shot him to death. Well duh, yea, anyone would move when a flash bang goes off, that no reason to shot them, gun or not. Those things are loud.

Common sense says they will make a move when one goes off.
You take cover till the smoke clears. And they could of easily just backed off and waited. Or should of used teargas n smoked him out while at a safe distance, then wrapped him in a straight jacket n got him the help he needed. Or atleast used non lethal bean bag rounds or rubber bullets.

The family is pissed and said they would of never called the cops if they knew they would just kill him. Which is what most folks with mental problems want, death by cop is the easy way out. As killing yourself is against god.

Dunno how I can know the right thing to do but trained officers go trigger happy on a guy who just needs help.

Glad he survived, and hope he makes a complete recovery. Thank you To all the LEO's out there for your service. It is a tough job, don't know how you all can put up with the crap that you must deal with everyday.

I would try to explain it to you, but I don't think it would be any use doing so.... wow. I hope the officer makes a full recovery, and I personally would like to extend a big thank you to all C5.com LEO for putting it out there everyday in order to keep the public safe.

Thank you!
+1

I have a few friends that are police officers and they put their lives on the line EVERY DAY to protect and serve the public, who doesn't always appreciate it...

Policy allowing us to use those lights and sirens on our squads, they are there for a reason. But the Law does allow us to speed to get to a call as long as we are safe and not reckless. You people always complain why we drive fast, lights and sirens to a call and then complain about it. But when its you who are calling 911 and want us there at the drop of a hat you complain as to why it took us so long!! Hot calls like domestic battery, suicides, gang fights or shootings, robberies in progress, homicides or officers requesting asistance because they are fighting for their lives all are lights and siren emergency calls by Dept. Policy. Not your son or daughter who don't want to listen to you because you are a shitty parent calls!!
I don't condone anyone driving 100 miles per hour to a call because studies have shown that if I drive 55 or 60 mphs I will still get to the call safely and only a couple of minutes later. Its not worth killing myself or someone else over going to a call. Im no good to you if I don't get there in one piece.
But even after I have taken the time to explain this there will still be some but heads that will bash us LEO's. There are more criminals out there then there are COPS. They do a hell of a lot worse things then we will ever do! Most COPS are honest people but in every job there are bad apples. Hopefully when you need us you get the good ones!
it's "damned if you do, damned if you don't"... :(

Cops are human beings, just like we are, and they are putting their lives on the line every single time they put on the badge...

I respect and admire these brave folks who are there for us...please say a prayer that this officer makes a full recovery so he can return to the job and his family...

Accidents DO happen, and cops make mistakes too. Unfortunate, but true. In this case, I'll withhold judgment as I wasn't there to observe first hand, and get all the facts. A lot of details seem to be absent.

Regardless... my hopes and prayers for the officer involved. Glad he survived and, I hope, lesson learned.

Well said, Donna! It takes a certain kind of person to put on a uniform, whether it be a police officer, state trooper, army, navy, air force or marine. The uniform makes you a target, unfortunately. :( I, for one, am glad of those who choose to do this.

Mistakes are made, no doubt about it. But they live in such a stressful environment... with the "public eye" on them 24 hours a day... my prayers are with this officer. For recovery, and for dealing with the "public eye" and those that are quick to judge, make accusations and condemn.

Thank you Ravirn, for your support....that is how I 'met' you initially...by thanking you for your brave military service...

I will add one more group to the list of brave heroes that wears a uniform -- FIREFIGHTERS!!!...

My dad was a VOLUNTEER fireman for our town for 60 years until he died in 2008 ...firefighters are the unsung heroes...they rush INTO a burning building, while others are rushing OUT...

May God bless and protect all the brave heroes mentioned in this thread!!!...

I have nothing but good things to say about all my Firefighter brothers! I work with them everyday and we always joke about how us Police Officers should have checked the other box on the testing application!!
But the reality is nobody ever complains or hates Firefighters.
I went to a house fire call and when I got there the apartment building was up in flames! I ran to the back of the building where people were pointing to a second story window where two kids were supose to be located. I broke the window out and the room was completely covered in smoke! I went in and was able to find the kids hiding under a bunk bed. I started to hand the kids over to the people outside the window and as I handed the first kid to a man he snatched the kid and said," GIVE HIM TO ME MOTHER F*&KER!!" Wow! Speaking of unappreciative people! After getting the kids out I walked to the front of the building covered in black burnt debris and the smell of smoke feeling like an ass for doing the right thing!
I can tell you that my Firefighter friends don't get treated that way.
