I entered shows last year (the paid sort) with my car all shiney with the stripes, orange chrome engine, embroidered trunk carpet, air brushed helmet, and so on. If the car wasnt from 1969 and before you didnt win. The judges couldn't give me a reason why nobody from 1970+ even got a second look (lots of hot 4th gens, mustangs, various mopar and several 2k+). and when the winners went up they all new each other. biggest waist of money out there. I stopped doing the pay shows and just hand out at local bars with patios.

Hate to say, but it is true. When the girls judge, many times they either already know someone showing, or like one of our local guys (who admits it) goes and flirts with the girls before they go around. If you're showing your car at Hooters or any of the places similar, I hate to say, it is just the way it is. And it does not matter if a car group is putting it on, it will still work out that way.

I used to judge at the Corvettes at Carlisle show when I was younger (13-14). I had been "helping" with that sort of thing since I was 5. I took the job seriously and did my best to judge everyone's cars equally. But, inevitably, there would be someone who's car did not live up to their ego. That person would immediately start ripping me apart due to my age...afterall, what do I know? I'm young (then). In the end, I never had a score sheet tossed out or changed. But, they did stop letting me judge just so the age complaints would stop.

Unfortunately, a lot of shows have nothing to do with the actual judging of the cars. It ends up being strictly about opinion and popularity. If you are going to a judged show to be judged and this is all you get, it really does make you feel a bit like you got ripped off. But, it is just a car show. If losing a car show to a "lesser car is the worst part of your day, then you should be very thankful.
