The fact that we are all in here talking about this is God at work.

How about an undecided ? Why you ask?

Well, I was brought up in a Baptist home, although I'll never profess to being one.I think there is a bunch of hypocrisy in religion, Baptists ragging on Catholics, Catholics on Jews, yet they all read the same Book. I never understood that, never will. So, disbelief set in.

Okay, a few times in my life, I should have been killed, or in the very least, hurt very badly. Yet, here I am, alive and well, with some good stories to tell. Didn't have my seatbelt on, only time I ever wore a helmet, the 4 wheeler should have flipped, etc, etc. Yet, here I am. Why? Was someone watching out for me? Maybe belief tries to creep back in.

I think, and this is my opinion, that God is there for those who have to believe in something, and for business. I'm sure evil is as high now as it ever was before the Flood, yet, where is our Flood?

Other points to ponder, and if you know the answers, or think you do, post up!! Where are the dinosaurs in the Bible? We know they existed, or is that a hoax? Why does carbon dating, even if it's millions of years off, puts Earth over 5 billion years old, yet the Bible dates us around 10-15000? Adam named all the animals, as we know them to exist now, yet, we know that's not entirely true.

So, what gives? Am I way off base, or touching on reality?

Lastly, IBTL.....lmao.

Good point. I've always been a show me and I'll believe it type of person and thus far no one has proven to me that God is real and not a myth. I have nothing against those who put their life in the hands of God but I choose to believe that it is my choices and decisions that shape and form my life and not some higher power guiding my way. My family, with the exception of my dad and myself, are extremely religious and they can't understand why I believe in what I do so it's something that is generally not discussed.

The REALLY oxy-moronic one is how God has a plan for all of us and sees everything in the future.... but we pray to him and ask him for guidance, favors or other material things?

Whats the point of praying to him when everything is predetermined?

I think this thread can potentially be full of cool stories from either side.
not sure why these are so frowned upon, unless name calling starts.

never thought of it that way, blew my mind just now. just like when someone told me god controls all, so he MADE YOU not believe in him if he exists, you can't be wrong he made you how you are.

Like I said what do you have to lose if you believe in God? But on the other hand what if you were wrong? and you chose not to believe? What then? God has given us a choice since our birth and throughout our lifetime.

I don't believe in Allah. Should I?

You lose nothing and it might be better for some people to believe in god and go with the bibles teachings because most of them are moral and can be applied to society and generally the "right thing" to do, but there are other people who need a reason to believe things, myself I was always taking stuff apart as a child, like the remote, I saw it changed channels, I asked my father how?

He said it just works leave it alone.... that was just not good enough for me.
highly religious people for some reason want to "shut you up" when you ask them a question. why not talk about it?

And like I said - if the god you believe in isn't the true god, you have quite a bit to lose.

Good point. Yet, I know He wants us to make choices, He wants us to believe. He wants us to make that decision, to show our love for Him. At least that's what I was taught.

Agreed. As long as the discussion stays adult, it shouldn't be closed. Who knows? Someone's life might be changed, for good, I hope, or bad.

Of note. I was always taught that God was a loving, forgiving God. Yet, He's jealous, demanding and has very little patience for those who try Him. He's commanded people to kill, yet says Thou shall not kill, He says that no one should be envious or coveting of one's neighbor, yet says Thou shalt have no other God before Me .

See what I'm getting at? Not saying this in a bad way at all, just putting things out there to discuss. Why the hypocrisy?

I like to talk about it. I think it's ok to be curious. Religion is what killed Jesus. Faith is what keeps him in our hearts and in our lives. Religion is that repetitious act that God hates. He wants to have a relationship with you.

There are things that have always bothered me about the bible and religion in general. One is "Thou shall not judge" and yet people who choose to believe are generally the quickest to judge you if you believe in something other than what they do. I don't know how many times I've been chided and belittled due to my lack of belief in someone's God or religion. Some people are so hypocritical when it comes to their beliefs. They seem to pick and choose what they practice when it's convenient to them. Just live your life and be a good person and that should be enough. No need to try to force things upon those that believe in something other than what you do.
