Ton of fail in this thread.

An engine is an air pump plain and simple. The more air you push the more power is to be had. How do you get a smaller motor to have the same power as a larger one? Higher RPM or forced induction.

Is the new 5.0 more efficient than the 6.2 from the factory? Yes
Will it have the same potential in a N/A application with mods? No

That is the reason I bought a Camaro instead of a 2011 Mustang GT. Regardless of the 200+ lbs. disadvantage of the Camaro, it's powerplant has a lot more potential and will cost less $$$ to mod.

Bolt-on for bolt-on comparison between the Mustang and Camaro will net a Camaro advantage every single time period.

Didn't the Evo Performance 2011GT just run 12.04 @ 117 with bolt ons? The jury is still out on the mod advantage.......the rest is pure speculation.

Their list of mods:

Exhaust (off-road x-pipe = no cats), Tune, ET Streets, K&N Drop in Air Filter, upper and lower control arms.

3.73 gear and they are replacing the stock clutch due to failure.

405rwhp up from 368rwhp

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Evolut...c/262882950647

Same mods to a LS3 and you are looking at ~422WHP. Add a 4.10, replace the bushings in the rear end housing and IRS frame mounts and you are looking at an 11 sec. Camaro under the same conditions/driver capability.

Thanks.

Spoone123's signature makes a perfect example. How come GM's 3.6L v6 makes 3 hp less than a 4.6L v8 of Ford?

The mustang v8 is only faster because of the torque.

You can't look at it that way.

You want to know how they got the hp out of the 5.0? A lot of reasons. Mainly because the heads, with 4 valves and all, come move some serious air.

GM could make 412hp out of a 5.0L also, or more. And could also get a good bit more hp out of the 6.2.

Just take the 3.6 in the Camaro and bump it to 5.0 (always dangerous to assume linearity but.....) and you get 436 hp. How come Ford couldn't match that with there all new engine?

Because jesus designed the 5.0 himself, I thought this was common knowledge?

Wait for the Gen V small block...then we will see the camaro have a smaller displacement, with the same power.
Look at ford brand new fancy 5.4 (GT500 2011 the alluminum one) that gets 550 horse power. thats 101.85 per liter with a motor that just built. now look at the zr1, that uses old school tech, to get 102.9 horse power per liter...then look at torque...thats where the difference will be.

Ok..the thread is kind of dumb, but hey I'm bored.
Aside from the basics, many of which have been mentioned FORD really went all out on the 5.0...take the heads for instance...they flow better than anything else Ford has, including the 5.0 Cammer head. 4V..varibable valve timing ect..
Generally the higher you can rev a given displacement, while not choking it off...the higher the peak power will be...Also don't forget the little things....like the electric power steering on the Mustang that minimizes parasitic losses.
Set up an LS3/L99 that breathes at 6500+ and the numbers will be well over the current 426 HP...why didn't GM do this? IMO Because they didn't need. The HP race is a marathon...they have to pace themselves...and at 426HP the LS3 Camaro was and still is top dog out of the 3 cars HP wise. So why would they wring out the LS3 Camaro rat off the bat? Makes no sense.
This question reminds me of when the ATV guys wonder why XYZ company makes over 100 HP with an 800 CC engine in their snomobiles and that same company's 800cc engine only puts out 70HP in their ATVs..when 70 HP is the top dog in an ATV this year do they really need to set it up to make 100 for next years model?
