Not totally. It depends entirely on the source (For instance, up here in NY we've got the Falls hydroelectric power. And even if you used coal...those plants are pretty clean, and electricity usage is generally more efficient than burning oil to make gas...and then burning the gas to move.

I want to see them do a "Volt application" on a vehicle the size of the Traverse/Eclave/Acadia. People with more than 1 or 2 kids would like to have the plug-in hybrid option as well.

I've always said that electric or hybrid vehicles would be a lot more popular if the automakers would actually make the cars people already want to drive into hybrids rather than trying to make people want to drive the ugly-ass hybrids they all seem to come up with.

If i'm not mistaken I believe that the volt system will only work on it's platform.

It's just (I say "just" like it's no big deal...), a Volt-ified Orlando:

Makes sense, since the Volt shares a lot (besides drivetrain) with the Cruze. And the Orlando is related to the Cruze, just like the HHR and Cobalt.

Correct, as of now, the Voltec powertrain is only compatible with the Delta-II platform. Installing it in vehicles larger than a midsize sedan would result in drastic EV range reductions without extra battery capacity.
