Maybe it is time to chime in with my real world experience.

Former owner of a CSRT4. Had about all the bolt on mods that could be had. Spun the tires in 3rd.

What good was being able to spin the tires in 3rd on the street? Absolutely none.
Could I stand a chance against a 2010 Camaro SS or Mustang GT from a stop. No.

What practicality did it offer? I had 4 doors, decent cargo space and 25 MPG in town. BFD.

I got rid of it for a 2010 Camaro SS. I can seat 4, enough room to pack luggage for a weekend get away, and I average 18.5 MPG in town. It would kill my CSRT4 from a stop and even if not better from a roll. Insurance is not much different. Where is the advantage in everyday driving? There isn't.

That's true as well. Again though, FWD performance cars achievements, despite their handicaps, shouldn't be disregarded.
