No. Yet another form of governmental control. For fear of making a political remark, this is all I'm going to say on the matter

What a pointless piece of legislation.

Driver education needs to be emphasized much more than identifying inexperienced young drivers. One idea that I've had is to include a 'driving simulator' video game as part of drivers ed and/or driver testing. It wouldn't include much of the mundane stuff, it would be more for emergency situations and poor weather.

I agree.

Also could be used to simulate situations you would not want the person encountering for the first time in real life.

Exactly. Putting the sticker on their cars is just saying "well, we teach them like crap and they need to figure out the rest....so in the mean time, steer clear of them". WHAT?! This is a bass ackwards way of doing this. They've been watching too much nascar

Exactly. Heavy snow/fog/rain, night driving, night driving + heavy snow/fog/rain (a nightmare for many drivers, experienced or not), trailering, heavy/extreme traffic, animals/obstacles/debris on the road, blowout/flat tire, and any other common circumstance. Can't expect that many drivers will have to deal with any of that during their test but most of it will be encountered within the first few months of driving. It won't replace real experience, but its a lot better than nothing.

Could even use it to show the effects of distracted driving

We should offer New Jersey to China to put towards our debt.

China would definitely refuse! Also, I'm sure one of the opponents of the law will say it's unconstitutional. If I remember correctly, weren't the elderly just as bad of drivers as the young, unexperienced ones?

I'd rather have a new driver than one who is legally blind.

Then continue their education with an advanced drivers course at age 17 to correct any poor habits the student drivers have fallen into. License the kids if passed (AT 85%, not 60!!) and go on to a happier, safer roadway.
Heeeey there we go!!! I completely agree with this. Either way though, law or no law, I will be making sure my kids (whenever i get around to having them) have PLENTY of driving experience before they're even old enough to get their permit! Four-wheelers, lawn-mowers, backing the car out of the garage, go-karts, these things can all help to teach kids the basics of driving. Then you just start showing them the rules of driving on an actual road when they start getting older. Worked on me!

To anyone who agrees with higher driving age: Driving comes from experience not age and 16 year olds are just like 18. I am learning a little now so when I drive I will be a better driver and safer. So in reality they lower the permit age to 15 and give you a year before your license

Before everyone goes ahead and argues that this is some sort of age prejudice, let's take a quick look at both sides. Very few drivers are capable if educated enough about local traffic laws to obey them immediately. Reckless accelerating and braking are part of the learning process for many permit drivers, and that is why they are required to have a permit and drive with someone more experienced by law until they get their own license. As a result, it is understandable that young drivers would be more likely to break the law due to a lack of experience.

On the other hand, you have an issue where the vehicle is identified as belonging to a young driver which may not even be the case, causing the car to get targeted for more aggressive law enforcement. This begs the question of whether such law enforcement is effective because there aren't enough young drivers that are the only driver of their vehicles.

Article is by Leftlane News. Discuss.
That's AGE PROFILING!!! Call in the ACLU! Call in busses of protesters! BOYCOTT NEW JERSEY!!!!!!!!!!!

While I don't agree with giving young driver's a tag to show that they are just that, young, I do agree with NEW drivers having a tag identifying then as a new driver. Yes it does make them stick out more and that what it is for. As the driver of another car near by, you get a bit more cautious around them since you know they may be just learning.
