Nowadays, any recall is not going to go well in the press. At least no one has been reported dead due to this. I got ahold of a GM document for sales associates on this, and it looks like the HHR and ION use different diagnostic systems, meaning that the problem is limited to Cobalts and Pontiacs.

I got a letter in the mail from chevrolet yesterday on the recall and its also on my 2006 chevy Impala. The letter says that the line can split or crack, blah blah blah and the letter continues to say. Your satifaction with your impala is very important to us, so we are announcing this program to prevent this condition.

Actually, GM is really obsessive about satisfaction ratings. Their surveys mean the world to service and sales departments.

They want their customers to be happy.

Obviously, it reflects well on them when results like the recent JDPower ones are released...but more importantly, a happy customer is more likely to come back again.

GM really does want an Apple-like customer service reputation. Ask the service manager at a reputable dealer. They will do anything to make you happy.

You'll continue to turn. And you probably won't notice it's out until you slow down to 10-15mph. It assists hardly at all at higher speeds.

"While greater steering effort under 15 mph may be required, if the customer experiences loss of power steering assist, it is important to note that the vehicle can still be safely controlled because the customer can still steer the vehicle."

Yep, who hasn't driven a GM with a busted PS pump, it no big deal cept at low speeds and then ya just hafta use them arm muscles.

It's not listed in the press release, but just to make sure, anyone know if the new Malibu's are affected by the recall?

With everything in new cars being "Drive By Wire", it's getting pretty scary, some of the most important safety and simple DRIVING factors fail due to A- Electronics never being completely 100% trustworthy, and B- Its all still new Tech.

It's the same car, just has different names.

At least GM is doing what is necessary.
