The rear wing on the Viper ACR generates over 1,000lbs. of downforce at 100mph compared to the 100lbs. on the stock Viper.

But yeah this shouldn't be compared to any kind of vehicle save other track only cars. I think Dodge makes it mandatory for you to have taken a professional track driving course before you're even allowed to purchase one.

This car is as pointless as it is brilliant.

Thats kind of impressive... I guess. It is basically a race car... but it did run a damn good time (would have been faster [by at least 1.5 sec, if not more) if he hadn't spend so damn much time on the rev chip, esp on the that long final straightaway).

and ditto all of this for the GT-R... if Nissan or Chevy wanted to run a stripped down club racer around the track, they'd get times like that, too.

My question is....Why haven't they!

I think it would be a hit: adj aerodynamics, light weight, and sticky tires, all with less option and a price that isn't much more because of the lack of stuff in the car (stereo, AC, sound deadening material)...

I think it's a great time. But the ACR has one advantage in every comparison that it's thrown into these days and even at the 'ring.

It came with it's own personal crew chief. The guy adjusts the car to suit whatever kind of track their on for maximum performance. I think it was Road and Track that ran like 10 cars through 4 different kinds of racing or so. Like autocross, short road course, long road course and oval track. The Viper wasn't the only car with adjustable suspension but it was the only one being adjusted for each type of track. A bit of an advantage if you ask me. Although anyone who buys one would be able to do the same, they wouldn't necessarily have a pro to do it perfectly.

That said, it's still impressive. The nurburgring is a great performance benchmark because it requires a car to excel at all performance aspects so it's very relevant.

The car is street legal, but you can take off a piece of the front body work which will make it illegal.

It's perfectly fair to compare the two, but it doesn't mean you have to like the Viper because it's a few seconds faster.
