I wonder if he believes really skinny tires will reduce unsprung weight and "there for" increase quarter-mile times...

spelling aside, he is partially correct. Gearing, weight, grip, and drive config do play a role in addition to hp. He just doesn't comprehend the relative importance of each when it comes to the 1/4 mile. AWD is one of the least important factors in a 1/4 mile drag race as its weight and inefficiency reduce acceleration after its moving, negating much of its off the line advantage. But in a shorter race, like 1/8th mile other cars don't have the time to run them down. I know you don't need this explained ... I'm just bored right now.

You also forgot to add that any good driver can match AWD 60 FT times with a RWD vehicle.

All things equal, AWD gets the jump off the line every time (unless the cars are very underpowered and don't need the extra traction). Let make this simple, consider a 2WD car with 50/50 weight distribution after rearward weight transfer during acceleration. The maximum force it can accelerate with is 50% of its weight x the co-efficient of friction between the tires and pavement. An AWD car can exert twice as much force if it has the same tires.

Hmm, guess your right. But you always see people getting mad good 60FT times with cars like the ZR1s.

Probably because the ZR1 is an absolute beast with good tires. Compare it against the 60' time of a 650 hp Evo or STi, it will be a similar power to weight ratio.

You're an idiot. The Shelby GT 500 would destroy a Skyline in a straight up 1/4 mile. In a track race the skyline would have it because the shelby's handling sucks. But right now the Shelby GT500 is one of the fastest cars. Besides the lambo's ferraris and all those crazy cars.

THE ONLY car that has a chance is the new Corvette ZR 3 or 6. Even the ZR1 wouldn't beat it. As for subarus and all that **** i go to Raceway Park 4, 5 times a summer which is a 1/4 race track in NJ that people bring there cars there to race for fun. And Muscle Cars ALWAYS beat the imports unless the car is modded.

I have seen Mustang GTs BLOW OUT Evo, Supras, GTO's, GTI's. So just imagine what a Shelby would do. I have a subscription to car and driver magazine and know what i'm talking about for i have seen it with my own 2 eyes.
You know I don't know what bothers me more about this post: A GT500 being quicker than a ZR1 or the Car & Driver comment.

Wait, are you trying to say that a 540 hp car weighing a bit less than 2 tons isn't the fastest car in the world? Common, its a Shelby!

anyhoo ... its nice to see that 1 in 5 have picked the Camaro as the fastest car. Some of that is obviously the ill-informed making a guess, but its nice to see anyway.
