CAFE has little to do with it. It's just the raw concept of developing a performance car designed to be sold to a limited audience. You can't sell them at Camaro or Corvette prices and expect to live off of that, ya know? |

Ugg ..... Please give me a Cobalt SS any day of the week. Man that thing is not only boring, but ugly too ! And it does remind me of a Hyundai....
GM, I hope the coupe steps it up.....if one is coming. |

IMO the exterior is not very attractive. I am disappointed. The interior looks great. I hope the quality is there and it is a hot seller. I also wonder if there is a coupe. My son has a Cobalt SS/SC and loves it, I hope GM has something comparable to keep those happy who cannot afford a Camaro.

Well folks...
We're going from this... ![]() To this... ![]() And going up against this... ![]() And this... ![]() I don't know about you guys, but the Cruze doesn't look too bad now, does it? Face it. This segment as a whole sucks for automotive design. Every now and then you'll come across an interesting design like the Mazda3, but that car has its own flaws too.

Toyota > Cruze > Honda in exterior looks IMHO. The Cruze's front end is definitely a step up front-end wise from the Cobalt though, but I loved the '06 generation's rear ends.

the interior looks really good. The rest is just staying in the play it safe mode. Should sell good as long as its reliable like a Corolla or Civic. Cheap, good on gas, reliable and well optioned is a win. Thats what most people want. If it gets a good rep it will sell. Should do a Hybrid version too. Nobody here will be impressed by really anything like this but its not for us its for the drive for 5 years and flip market.

The rear ends ON THE COUPE are sexy... the sedan is ugly and boring. The only front end I really like on the cobalt is the SS's. Hopefully if there is an SS Cruze and/or a coupe I will be pleasantly suprised.

IMO this may be the first GM car in a long time where the win is the interior.
It is a roomy car that is well thought out and the materials are top notch. I think the main competitor will be the Corolla followed by the Korean Kia/Hyundai (same company so lump them how you see fit). And it blows them away from what I've seen. The photos don't show all the optional content. I've seen some that look even better than these press photos. Your points on the engines are well taken, but CAFE rules now and throwing a bigger 4 cylinder just doesn't work. Need high volumes of 35 to 40 mpg cars to average out the Camaro SSs. And the 40 mpg Cruze might just be the ticket. This will be a quiet, comfortable, economical choice. If you want more performance, Chevrolet would be happy to sell you a V6 Malibu or even a nice Camaro.
