I wouldn't be surprised if they are being truthful. AWD, DCT, and aggressive gearing makes for impressive 0-60 runs. And I don't know where the OP got his info from. Porsche's own website says it weighs 4300 lbs and 0-60 is 3.8s with a performance package. How is it so inconceivable? If they posted a high 1/4 mile trap or something then maybe. But there are plenty of ways (most of them featured on this car) to improve 0-60 beyond moar powah!

I think he got his numbers from Road and Track.

0-60 3.4
1/4 mile 11.7

Road and Track seem to have better numbers than most mags. They had a Z06 do 0-60 in 3.4, typical is a couple tenths behind that. Not saying its right or wrong, it just needs to be put in perspective.

188mph tops speed...very nice..it's not a quarter mile car anyway. I had a Ruf Turbo and a 2002 Twin Turbo...Porsche nows how to make cars that are fun to drive handle great and put together well with quality inside and out

Its not that weight is everything. Shaving off pounds is one way to make a car faster, having sticky tires and a very well engineered tran/rear end is another. If you can do both..along with having lots of horspower, well you probably just ended up with a car thats impractical as ****, expensive as *** and impossible to get serviced. The reasons Americans love American muscle cars is that they are real cars, at real prices for real people. 80% of the performance for 20% of the cost is a no brainer for anyone...well with a brain.

To get back to the original thread, I think you will find that that that magazine (R&T?)has probablly misprinted the actual performance figures. Other testers have reported slower times by a sec or so in the quarter. Might be a correction in the next issue as the original figures seem rather suspect. They will receive lots of mail.

Cheers.

Actually, several magazines have reported numbers in the 3.2 - 3.4 range. Porsche is very conservative with their numbers. Also like the Camaro, Porsche has launch control but is pretty much controlled by the onboard computer similar to the GT-R. That electronic control in combination with their transmission works wonders for fast launches.

If it was a sec slower in the quarter mile then it was probably the 4S and not the Turbo.

Well, this thread got owned.
But anyways, back to the point, the panamera is meant to be a 4 door exotic sports car. The competitors to this car should be just the maserati quattroporte, and while some will argue the M5, it's not really an "exotic." That, plus the aston martin rapide, and you have a three way race. The panamera turbo can run 0-60 in the 3's, quarter mile in high 11's, low 12's, handle great, have a great interior and exterior, so I think it's an all around great car. Is it meant to be just an outright performer? No. Is it meant to be solely a luxury car? No. Is it meant to be solely exotic? No. Its meant to get the best of all three, and I think porsche did a great job.
