The GS is the car for people that don't want or need the LT4 but want the wide body. There's nothing wrong with variety when it comes to Corvettes. There's now a model for just about everyone.
I understand that its another option. I also understand that a bunch of dealers are offering $10k+ off the sticker prices of Z06s. A dealer by me has a new Z06 listed at $17k off of sticker price.

When it comes to pricing, you are comparing sticker prices, which is fine.

I'm looking at it in terms of what the cars can be had for. There are big discounts on Z06s and none on the GS. The ATPs for the cars are probably very similar, which I find hilarious.

For the same money, I can get a GS, or I can get a GS with 190 more hp (Z06). Just because it has more power doesn't mean you have to use it.

They are the same price if you look at a higher trim GS vs lower trim Z06 or new GS vs a discounted old stock Z06.

Of course, the flip side is that if you reverse all that ... a year from now you should be able to get a basic 2017 GS for half the price of a brand new loaded 2018 Z06.

Very true. I'm sure that at the end of the 2017 model year, when everything is discounted, and even right now if only looking at 2017 models, the GS will be cheaper than the comparable Z06 trim across the board.

Simple solution to dealing with the egregious prices: Let some other sucker buy the car new, they'll be bored with it in a year, trade it in with under 10,000 miles on the clock, you pick it up for $1,000's less.

I seriously can't wait to get my hands on a grand sport with a couple thousand miles on it for around 50-55k in a year or two. Then again, 2015 Z06s will be around the same range... hmm

No shit. That's a dumb way to compare these two cars though. That's not an apples to apples comparison.

To get the true difference in the cars, you need to compare both 2017 versions with the same options to see what the true difference in the packages is.

Thats never going to stop someone who has a budget of 70 grand from considering last years Z06 that a dealer is trying to get rid of.

I agree that cars should generally be compared feature to feature, year to year & the cheaper one when everything else is equal becomes the better buy. But there are an awful lot of people who think in terms of "What will $XX,XXX get me?". They set a price based on their budget and set out to get the best car they can for that much money. That doesn't make them stupid, they're just using price as the basis for comparison.

Question: If you do end up getting one a few years down the road, how will you DD it as you do your 1LE? Tank tracks, chains on the tires, retractable spikes a la James Bond?
