Number of recalls has very little to do with how reliable a vehicle is. Recalls are safety related. Otherwise, odds are it won't get recalled. And not everything safety related is because of a part failing. It could be a manufacturing error or a defective design on a part.

Brand A has 100 cars that are found to be missing a washer in the suspension, which then causes 500,000 cars to get recalled.

Brand B has 10,000 cars that have premature failure of the power windows, which then causes 0 cars to get recalled

Now, which one builds the more reliable car: the one with the most problems, or the one with the most recalls?

I'd rather not have to worry about my brake lines rusting through.
