I think the 3.7L V6 powered base model is going to be the real shocker in the lineup, and that is saying something because I absolutely expect the 5.0L to be a solid 12 second car that handles like the M3 and the Track Pack Mustang spawned a child..

More than 275hp and 270lb-ft of torque (this is a second generation, rwd specific take on the 3.7L so it will be upgraded compared to the 275hp unit under the hood of the MKS) in a car which will absolutely weigh less than the current 4.0L powered unit, all in a package that should easily possess 50/50 f/r weight distribution and might even have a slight bias to the rear?

If the hp number jumps by a mere ten ponies and the torque curve gets just a little fatter in the mid range, when coupled with what is a certain to be a typical sub 3300lb curb weight this thing should easily hit high 13's with a 6-speed manual behind it. The only limiting factor I can see is gearing slanted very heavily toward better epa mileage ratings.

Sub 3300lb?

More than 275hp and 270lb-ft of torque?

Six speed manual?

50/50 weight distribution?

That is pure performance car boys and girls. Makes me wonder just how good the GT will be. The 2011 Mustang is absolutely going to be the best ponycar ever. Now, where is that checkbook?

I'm hoping that the 3.7 mustang forces chevy to offer a track pack for the LLT Camaro.

I'm sure this car will weigh a decent amount more. DOHC and 6-speed trans weighs more than SOHC and 5 speed trans. There are more moving parts, it's simple science. Let's not forget bigger brakes to slow the car, beefier clutch to handle the added power, more frame bracing and I would imagine the rear tire would get wider than the standard 245's offered now. If you think the car could add almost 100hp with more tecnology and added moving parts and not gain at least 100lbs. then you're crazy.

I wish I could love a car so blindly I was willing to assume the best about everything before anything was announced. Alas, I live in the real world.

It is definitely good to see some competition coming out of Ford. This will only lead to the reinforcement that American performance cars are among the best. It is good to see the Mustang catch up to the Camaro and Challenger platforms in the performance department.

Of course, because while the current Mustang GT with Track Pack is one of the best handling American cars ever produced somehow shaving about 200lb off the nose and 100lb off the rear of that basic setup will ruin all of that since, as we know, more weight is a good thing.

Where in the hell are you getting any of this information? Because a rumour is put out does not make it true. You're clearly just wanting to believe anything good about Ford and the Mustang as you have an obvious bias.

Luckily I don't have the same problem.
