A lot of the them have money but they want to spend it on the latest electronic gadgets, updating every six months for the new option. When I was young after paying all my living expenses I would spend it on my cars. We didn't have cell phone etc. buy.

Its all what younger folks today feel is important. I will say, seeing younger folks owning Camaro's and the like is awesome -- when the bug hits you, wow. My daughter (20) and my youngest son (17) want a Challenger and a Mustang (I know yuck ;o)... but they see what I'm doing and how much fun I'm having -- who knows? They also see I'm working extra to get what I want -- want that to rub off on them -- time will tell! |

I would agree with the money issue - student debt and a tough job market for the past 5 years have made it nearly impossible for many young people to buy and modify muscle cars. That said, I would not say they aren't interested - I am 25 with a camed v8 convertible (probably the smallest car market ever) and there are many people young and old that get excited to see it/ hear it.
Also, keep in mind that cars are a lot more complicated than they were in the 60s and that intimidates many people from even trying to learn about their car at all. |

There are quite a number of young enthusiast out there still. But the younger crowd tends to be more of a late night crowd. Instead of waking up early Sunday morning to go to cars and coffee at 8 in the morning, they're going to stay up until 11 or 2 on Saturday.

You guys realize that a lot of young adults these days are suffering with massive school loans just to qualify for jobs in this messed up economy we live in?

Its all about how you're brought up in my opinion. I'm 22 and I cant remember a day I wasn't mesmerized by cars. American muscle to be specific, hence my 1LE. Most kids around my age now are more worried about doing as many drugs as they can and going to an electronic music concert. Fortunately for me, I have a job that allows me to afford my car. Most "kids" cant afford these big v8 cars and the constant trips to the pump.

I new muscle cars were dead when I read about some guy getting a speeding ticket at 130 mph in a Hyundai. Jeeps, trucks, and family cars often go 0-60 < 7 secs and stick to the road. You don't have to buy a sports car nowadays to get sports car performance.
The other posts have pointed out that a lot of younger people don't have the spending power. At the same time if they do, flashy cars don't seem to be as high on the list of spending priorities. But there are more affordable sports cars choices than ever I think. Ford Focus ST & Fiesta ST, Mini, Fiat Abarth, Civic Si, WRX, Golf GTI, Miatas, Scions. The 2015 Mustang and 2016 Camaros will be amazing sports cars in terms of both speed and handling. This is a great time to be in the market.

My son and all the teenage neighborhood boys are all over muscle/sports cars. If they are not working or hanging out they are at a car show.

Back in 77-79 at the age of 21-23... I had a 57 Chevy with a 283.. Then I put a 327 in it, wanted to go faster,so I put a 409 in it...still need more...and dropped a 454 in it...I was satisfied then...and did this all outside in the driveway with hand tools...like wrenches and ratchets...NO AIR TOOLS. The good OL days
