Actually the toyota thing got A LOT of media attention. Everything does nowadays. It's all breaking news until it's 15 minutes old, then it's the next breaking news thing.

This too shall pass.

Fwiw the largest news empire in the US (world even?) owns Fox News, which has the largest viewership of any of the 24/7 news outlets. They're very business friendly and pro-merican. Not sure your suspicions about why this is making the news holds water. It is, however, an often used talking point on the Fox News broadcasts that the media is "liberal" or somehow bent to implode reality. Keep 'em fearful and angry. Who's manipulating who, exactly?

The big difference I see is I never once heard anyone say "screw Toyota" they just kept buying them swearing they were the best thing since sliced bread. I hear about the evil GM empire daily...that, to me, is a direct reflection of the overall attitude of the media.

Oh, and I wasn't referring to fox news directly, mostly CNN, lol.

On a side note, your user name makes me lawl

Some of the people I have talked to who are GM people for life, have that mindset. Basically they saw GM almost fail once before, they wanted them to succeed, but now they see all these recalls and the way the media portrays them and they get this in their head "same old GM, thinking they are to big to fail, might as well let them this time"

Some of those GM for life people even bought stock in GM and lost their investments. I only have issue with recalls that are not safety-related. With more recalls in the past year than vehicles sold, I cannot imagine this being good for the MSRP of future vehicles.

I saw the same thing on Fox news the past 2 days but from what Fox said, GM is recalling anything and everything to make sure they dont get hit again for something stupid. And I think GM is doing it to protect themselves.

Fox news also said that recalls are way up for ALL car manufacturers not just GM....

You do? Even about ME working for GM!!! . I DO NOT, AND HAVE NEVER WORKED FOR GM. I am an EET at a small engineering firm. Please keep your conspiracy theories that involve me to yourself.

And Toyota REFUSED to acknowledge OR issue a recall UNTIL THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WOULDN'T ALLOW THEM TO SELL THE CARS until they were fixed.

There are two sides to every story. You simply cannot make a thorough, informed, and intelligent determination with only one side of any story.

Most of the important, safety related recalls were under the old/pre-bailout GM (<2008). Overall very few of the 2009+ models have anything significant to be addressed. I'm a Chevy owner as a result of the bailout, their cars have improved dramatically since then and are now actually competitive dollar for dollar in their respective segments. I'm actually on my third Chevy in as many years [long story]. Since 2012 they have really stepped things up. The Cruze, Sonic, Spark, 2013+ Malibu, 2014+ Impala, etc are all very good vehicles. The recalls are obviously the result of the bad decisions of the old management and this will be providing GM with a clean slate from herein.

CNN is a small share of viewership and not a good gauge for how the entire media is portraying something. Like I said, since Fox News is a majority (see link below) of that viewership now, what they say is actually the predominant opinion of "news".** The student has become the teacher. They should speak nicer of themselves when they pit "the media" versus everyone else.

Some example numbers from just a few days ago...

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...0-2014/266283/

** News as measured by viewership numbers, not by quality of reporting or intelligence/gullibility of said viewers
