Anytime a PC is connected to a switch, hub, etc. it needs to be connected with a standard Ethernet cable.
Anytime a PC is connected to another PC it needs to be connected with a crossover Ethernet cable.

This is common basic networking knowledge.

Right but a PS3 is technically not a PC. From my experience a gaming console doesn't need a cross over cable.

I connected my Xbox with a standard patch cable from the Ethernet port on my laptop (created a network bridge from my wireless card) and had no issues and it connected to the Internet.

Edit: I actually made the cable so I know it was not a cross cable. It went OW-O-GW-B-BW-G-BW-B on both ends

Alright well we plugged the ps3 straight to the port and the tech configured the port to allow the ps3 to connect... well that didn't work. Although theres a weird problem now. The tech sent me logs where it shows that the ps3 is successfully communicating and connecting to the router but I can't connect. I keep getting a "the request for the ip address has timed out" message. Anyone got any ideas? I'm basically gonna have to do a factory reset and hope that works because I'm out of ideas
