My personal 2nd and third best:

BRM V16:

Mazda 787B (heard that one in Le Mans, was ABSOLUTELY amazing to "locate" the car on track only by listening to the sound)

Hands down the best sounding engine ever made.

A cammed LSx engine with headers/full exhaust sounds the best I think:

Best sounding racing is the Unlimited class at Reno Air Races:

NASCAR Sprint Cup is a close 2nd:

Nausea among crew members was common. The thing would knock people over just by running the engine. You could hear it 20 miles away when it was on the ground. The thing could screw up equipment in the control tower by its vibration.

Anything that does that could make you piss your pants uncontrollably
I am sure it's not as loud as the XF-84H but have you ever heard a gulfstream III use full reversers? In my year and a half working at the airport I never heard any thing louder than those GIII's. Even with the "hush" kits they were louder than 98% of the other aircraft we had coming in.

As for cars I think it's really tough but I do love a cammed V8 sound but will still take the high revving 4.0l V8 in the current M3. God that motor sounds wonderful.

Which was it: a 426 HEMI? Or a WEDGE 440 6 BBL? (Dodges were 6 PACK)

They're two entirely different engines.
