Honestly, its bothered me too, since it kinda gives away the old fashioned mentality some people have here. 1/4 times and cubes aren't the only thing that matter in American motor sports and performance cars anymore. The Camaro has made the effort to be a thoroughly modern, global car, and succeeded with flying colors. Yet that's lost on people who don't realize how far things have come since the '70s.

Almost a too little too late. From a domestic industry thing.
And our trucks are still using 4 speeds...

In my big truck I have an 4 speed trasmission with a low gear, a hi range selector with Drive and Over Driver available in every gear.

That, of course, is why it is called an 18 speed.

And no one can remember if they are in 12th or 13th.

So we say "you are in 6th Over Drive" as opposed to 12th. It is just easier to remember.

And I come from the day when cars had "Three on the Tree" , "Four on the Floor" or slushbox's.

Vent windows were awsome.

To many of us in the rather large "Baby-Boomer" generation, when we say "X" - speed it refers to the vehcile being equipped with a manual.

Regardless of generation, I don't think this is something to take a whack at people for. Heck, it isn't worth the Generational Battle that would ensure.

I grew up in the "3 on the Tree era." I don't like window cranks (had too many break for various reasons over my lifetime - and the repairs weren't cheap - Prices of a Window regulator were pretty expensive)), and vent windows are a non-issue (Camaros lost them in 1968.)

Your 4 speed is a 12 speed...Wheres the other 6?

Don't matter what gear you're in as long as it's the right one and you know where the next one is, right?

No, my four speed is an 18 speed.

The next one, is right after the one your in until you get to 18, then there are no more.

Know why there will never be a 21 speed in a truck?

10 fingers and 10 toes.

I am sure the 18 speed was designed by a guy who use to work in a saw mill who lost 2 fingers.

Before we had Air Conditioning in everything, we use to call them the 60's.

When you got up to 60 mph, you would push them all the way out to get some air in the car.

"Man it is hot, open up the 60's"
