Here's GM Authority's take, which is also a great source of information.

Not really. If this came to fruition it would be one sedan, split into three models.

I got some good memories in my friend's 1987 GNX. That was a fast machine.

I like this one. Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport

"325-horsepower, all-wheel-drive version of the Buick Regal GS. "

"0-60 mph from standstill in 5.6 seconds on its way up to 170 mph. Your neighbor’s 270-horsepower Buick Regal GS isn’t nearly that quick, despite sharing many of the same technologies."

I just think one RWD sedan from Buick would be enough, not 3.

It IS one sedan. Just split into three models. Look at them as trim levels instead.

Too bad part of what made the original Grand Nationals so awesome was their performance relative to other cars of the time. The 86/87 GNs could take just about any car in a straight line at the time. It was definitely faster than a 86/87 Corvette and depending on the review, a GN could hang with or beat a similar vintage 86/87 Ferrari 328.

By extension, now imagine a modern Buick Grand National that could beat a base C6 LS3 Corvette and hang with a Ferrari 430 (not even a 458) in a straight line. That would rule.

The biggest fail here is that the current car has to many doors. Buick needs a two door to deserve those bages. Plus, like said above they would need some serious power to live up to the originals in today's terms. They were faster than even camaro's, trans ams(until they put the same motor in the pace car version), and corvettes. To me this means they need a car that will out run a Zl1 and at least a Z06 vette.

This could be another faceplam for GM IMO if they don't do it right.

What did people hate about the GTO? it looked nothing like a GTO.

When you think of a Grand National or a GNX what do you think of? First thing that comes to my mind is a coupe, with a turbo 6.

Not a 4 door with a V-8 in it. IF they made a current day GN it has to be a coupe with a turbo 6. It cant be a 4 door.

That Quick 6 was very special and showed everyone just how fast a 6 cylinder can be. I'm hoping the Engineers do their magic once again with another Quick 6.

If it has 4 doors, it is NOT a GN, that would just ruin it. GM Engineers, if you are reading this, please pass the word on to your buddies, 2 doors only.

With regard to the "correct" number of doors, perhaps, besides a Camaro, "Alphie" will spawn some others...although that 4-dr above is one tuff-lookin' mutha.
