I have been a scout leader for over 20 years. Currently I mostly work with Venture scouts. This is a part of the Boy Scouts of America, and it is for young men and women 14-20. None of my scouts are like this in the slightest. First, their parents cared enough to get them into the program. But once they are 15 or so, THEY cared enough to stay with it. The good kids are out there, unfortunately the bad ones make more noise.

I know exactly how you feel and you did the right thing. Someone that attacks (verbally or physically) others without provocation is just revealing how little self-esteem they actually have and how much fear they have of the other person.

I was brought up to respect my elders (and my betters) but this generation of teens (per a previous reply...) feels a misplaced sense of entitlement. I doubt any of those kids holds down a decent job and they're probably all graduates of the fifth grade. They'll get their comeuppance sometime.

Just wait. I'm in my early 30s and work with 18-21 year olds daily. Mind you, many are respectful and understand what stupid is, but a VERY healthy percentage of this age group is down right rude, intolerable, uneducated punks. Why just wait?... 25 years from now there will twice as many trouble makers and violent acts by dumb-asses like these.
