The FRS and BRZ will only receive boxer engines which will be designed by Subaru with a bit of input from Toyota. If this gets a turbo motor it will either be the next gen wrx engine or the next gen sti engine. I think the wrx version is more realistic. Expectations for the next gen wrx are 280-300hp, sti 340-360hp.

Just test drove both the FRS and BRZ and ok ok they are fun to drive, has a much smaller interior than I was expecting. It really should be a two seater because the backseat is not going to fit someone who is taller than a child. Overall it's a fun car but for the looks of it, Id expect a little more horsepower. The exhaust note is awesome though!

Did you like the Subie more and was it loaded with leather and what not? Too bad Toyota stuck a lame Scion badge on their FT86. I could see this BRZ taking the sports car crown from Mazda once they deliver a turbo model. A modded 350-400whp turbo BRZ would be an affordable track animal.

Checked out the FRS today, and I have to say I was impressed.. They look way better in person. I'd have to lean more towards the Subaru BRZ, due to its extra features...
Wish they had more power from the get go, but if they handle as well as rumored... I am betting they'd be a blast to drive even with the lower power. The MPG rating is amazing on that car too for what it is. Cheap, efficient, gorgeous... fun... I think it's a great balance. If I was confident it would make a decent winter driver, and haul enough to be a daily driver.... And fit a bike somewhere.. I'd probably be heavily considering picking up a white BRZ and getting rid of my gas hungry 21L/100KM SVT Raptor and save myself a couple hundred bucks per week on gas alone. Leaning more towards a Golf R, due to the AWD & hatch/4 doors/back seats/low production #'s in North America and a nice interior. It may not be the looker that the Camaro or BRZ are... but I need to maintain atleast some of the practical uses I will be losing in the truck if I part with it. Fuel efficiency and low cost/fun in the BRZ are very tempting though. |

They are pretty cool. Toyota/Subaru put together a great little sports car package. Light weight, nimble, quick. I am seriously considering picking one up for autoX duty.

I'd pick a BRZ in a heartbeat if I had a bunch of $$ laying around.

I personally own a frs and after 2500 miles I'm trading it in for a camaro . I love the way the frs handles , it's like it's on rails and it looks great imo.But the good doesn't beat the bad. There is a lot of quality issues as far as stereo sucks , even with any gains taken out and have it turned up it distorts , panels vibrate bad due to the stereo, lots of unwanted engine noise(big complaint of other owners), excessive road noise. And it's slow as hell, 1st gear is useless, it has no power at all, I personally start in 2nd and its not much slower to be honest.
It handles get but that's all it has going for it, to make it a great car would cost another 10-20K in stereo/dynamat work and engine work |

Love the comments about how the car that has less horsepower but is better handling means that it 'Sucks' because it has less horsepower when you're talking about a Toyota, but as soon as it's the ZL-1, it's "The best because it can handle."

Have you not been to the ZL1 forum at all. Untill recently it read like a JD powers nightmare. Or how about the Vert owners? L99s with no fix to their underpowered cars other than to do a fuse pull. AFM that has problems making a kettle drum sound? Perspective please.

Saw one of these (in red none-the-less) at our balloon fields the other day, sexy lil thing! Will have to see what the next gen of Camaros bring to the table, but this definitely just made my short-list of cars I'd like to own.
