I stopped smoking almost 3 years ago after 30 years of a pack a day. My son was in the middle east, a grandaughter on the way and a grandson we were raising, the pressure was on. Feeling the effects of that many years of smoking I became terrified of not being around, or having to have mechanical support to be around my family. I did stop cold turkey, it's easier than you think but not a walk in the park. I salute all of you trying to stop or have stopped smoking and don't judge the people who continue to smoke!

You can't force someone to quit. They HAVE to want to. Shame can work but it must be generated from the person quitting. By judging someone who is struggling you are by default forcing their attempts.

Used smokeless tobacco for 15 years. Quit about 10 years ago. I would be lying if I said I still didn't get some cravings but they are tons better then they used to be. Weird though that just everyone once and a while I have a dream that I am using again. Just had one two nights ago.

When I quit I tried the gum, but I could chew more than Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents. The patch is what finally worked for me.

Congrats on quitting OP way to go.

I used to smoke years ago.. guess i started bout 13 tooo.
I quit 5 nov 90, was told i had a baby heart murmur.
With heart problems on both sides of the family was an easy choice.
