some fun facts

1. Dick Clark was a huge Flintstone fan. and owned a ‘Bedrock’ inspired estate in Malibu, California worth a cool 3.5 million dollars.
2. Dick was introduced to the broadcast world by his father Richard Augustus who was a station manager for WRUN in Utica, NY.
4. Clark graduated with a degree in Business from Syracuse University and is a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon a fraternity that began at Yale in 1844. Some of Delta Kappa Epsilon notable members are George H. W. Bush, Theodore Roosevelt and Rutherford B. Hayes.
5. After graduating high school, America’s Oldest Teenager began working at Syracuse University’s student-run radio station WAER-FM at the tender age of 17.
6. The early part of his career wasn’t all peaches and cream as he survived the infamous Payola Scandol which ended the career of Rock and Roll Dj Alan Freed.
7. American Bandstand first aired in Philadelphia and Dick Clark is credited with putting the city of brotherly love on the cultural map.
8. Dick Clark helped to intergrate the dance floors of a ‘Black and White’ America by inviting black dancers to his show in 1958 just one year after starting American Bandstand.
9. Clark’s last big television gig was Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2012.
10. Even though he couldn’t play a single instrument, Clark was one of the most passionate music lovers that ever live and once said “Music is the soundtrack of your life.”

Great Post aSSian

He was an ICON and change agent for this Country. His stroke left him with noticable impairments, but boy you have to give the man credit for his work ethic.

Tom...he had a stroke in 2004, that's why he hasn't been around much.

The last time I watched American Bandstand, colour television had yet to be invented. It was just as uncool as the rest of TV always had been and still is; super boring!

I will admit I didn't watch the show much, but I did enjoy going to his restaurant in Overland Park during its heyday. Had good food, drinks and IMO better than Hard Rock's overall. Never did see him though but he was supposed to show up unannounced sometimes.

RIP.

I remember being a stupid little kid and waving to my older brother when he was on American Bandstand thinking he could see me.

Wonder if everyone will be waiting on the autopsy to see what drugs he had in his system like they did Whitney Houston?
