Caprice is a rebadged Holden Caprice. The G8 was a rebadged Holden Commodore.

A flagship should not be based on an Australian design. GM really is in shambles if they can't make their own RWD platform, w/o help from the Australians.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

GM = Holden = GM. WGAS.

Holden is owned GM though. Their area of expertise is in mass market, large RWD sedans. Their engineers have got a couple decades more experience doing those cars than their American counterparts have. It makes perfect sense to use that knowledge base.

And they have multiple RWD platforms that were have nothing to do with the Aussies: Y-body, GMT900, and Sigma to name a few. But none of these aren't exactly suited to building a full size sedan with a mid 20k starting price.

I'll be happy if it has different looking "SS" emblems and a steering wheel that isn't lifted straight out of the Camaro. Dumbing down to all models the premium image of certain models is not a sustainable business strategy. [NOTE: I guess Corvette owners could be heard to say the same thing about the Camaro line, but I see a historical and actual difference.]

I'll keep hoping GM has learned their lessons well as a result of their bankruptcy. I dunno, they shit-canned Pontiac but still have Buick......

They canned a hugely unprofitable division that sold a metric crapload of units to fleet and kept a high-profit, high-conquest, very focused global brand. I see no problem here.

I haven't looked at the divisional P&L's, historic or current, and have zero reason to doubt your comment. Pontiac had been on life-support for years. My point, although left unclear in my original post, is that GM should shutter Buick and bring the profitable models into the Chevy or Cadillac family. Does anyone under 60 yoa actually leave their house with the specific intention of spending their own dough on a Buick? Maybe they do, but I don't see them around my little hamlet here in Orange County.

Just my opinion, understand.

I only say it because I have pride in my country, and would like for the biggest American Auto manufacturer to design it's own RWD platforms, not rely on Aussies.

That's alright though, because I won't be buying any new GM vehicles for a while.

Local sales do not and will never represent national or global sales.

Buick's average owner age has been dropping steadily since Enclave was launched. People in their 30s and 40s are buying Buicks now.

And with the awesome new Verano, Buick is back in the game right where they need to be! The new Buick's are just mini Cadillac's... with a few differences. Not as sporty, FWD rather then RWD. But for design, features, options and comfort; same boat!
