I'm thinking the same thing. I wonder if they do make duplicate plates, as long as they are not the same type of plate (Vet, normal, etc.)? I think Va. has about 200 different styles of plates.

Careful, when we government employees stop helping, your camaros start driving off falling bridges and over even more potholes than you do now.

yes, the government does such a good job with the roads that all we ever hear is how terrible they are and that the infrastructure of the country is crumbling. everything the government touches turns to crap and costs 10x what it was supposed to.

unless of course you work for the IRS, in which case I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you what a great job you and your agency do, through your tireless and thankless efforts.. and how thankful I am that we have you

He still ticketed you for speeding? As a L.E.O I would have just have let you go for several reasons, 1. you're a veteran (you have given lots for this country) 2. DMV has obviously made a mistake in the system (or maybe the officer just didn't know how to run that specific type of plate) 3. after holding you up for x amount of time trying to figure out the issue and 4. I'd let you go just for being a CAMARO owner....

Maybe the officer could have been a Rustang owner... (possibility)

Unfortunately even though it sounds like it wasn't your fault, you should get your plates situation worked out, and that is something that you would have to do. The officer is not going to issue you new plates or change the DMV info. So I'd go tell them to fix it, unless you want to go through something like that again.

And ya, 5 am, only 10 over, and your a vet driving cool car, I would have let you go also. Sucks.

I'm surprised that he did not ask you where your regularly issued VA tag was. I am sure you need to have it in your vehicle at all times along with the vanity tag. Can't remember how VA tag records look in NCIC but both tags should come up as a cross reference when you run the registration including doing it by VIN#. That might mean there is actually a problem with the way VA put your tag into the system. DMV depts do make mistakes......trust me not often but it happens.
Sorry, you got a ticket for 10 over...a little "weak" by my standards....and apparently he had no Camaro Love....but then again those VA boys are tough down there...I don't even go messin' around in VA.

Not to thread jack, but the IRS agent I talked to the other day was GREAT! She told me our audit was re-reviewed and we don't owe anything

Now - back to subject - I was thinking of getting special plates, and the info in here has been helpful! I have to remember to check into whether the same numbers/letters are issued on multiple types of specialty plates! Sorry this has been a pain for you, OP, but thanks for sharing, it may prevent headaches for someone else!

Whoa! If you are serious, that's just the oddest coincidence ever! No, in my attempt to be Mr. Funnypants, I Wikipedia'd "submarines," and randomly selected the Maine off of one of the links. I took the opportunity to learn a little tiny bit about subs, including the fact that there have been a LOT of them built by/ for the U.S. Navy over the years (hundreds... maybe thousands?)... that's what makes it even more remarkable if you really were on the Maine!

I wouldn't know one sub from another. I was military (four years Army!), but I know nothing Naval, except for oranges and that thing at the far end of my beer belly.

I was on the USS Maine from '96 to '00 then I was on the USS Kentucky from '00 to '02. So you did send me for a loop. I thought I actually did know you.
