choosing the numbers and letting the machine choose them really has no difference.

If you play the numbers from lost, and the machine picks it.. hundreds of thousands of people will probably win.

I imagine the machine picks a number with the fewest number of wins on it, in expectation that the winning ticket will be lost or the owner will not come forward.

Remember this is a game designed to extort money. The only reason it pays out AT ALL is to keep up appearances. The computer is working against you. It has a database of numbers and the number of times said numbers have been played, it will do everything it can to not let anyone win.

Also, lost was a terrible series.

I think I'll have one Camaro for every day of the week. Can't forget the Copo Camaro for when I wanna hit the drag strip and the Zl1 for the road course. I've always wanted a new corvette as well. I'll take 7, 7 sounds like a reasonable number of corvettes.

I'm only buying one ticket so that "the computer" can see that and think that I will make for a great story....

if the numbers are computerized, why would they care how many winners there are? whether there is 1 winner or a million winners, it still pays out the same. either the 1 winner wins the whole thing, or the millions of winners will split the pot...

When the jackpot grows, people that dont play play, and people that do play buy more tickets = more profit.

Yeah, I never do the lottery except for this one time. I put down $5 in the office pot. it's at least worth the small talk and day dreaming to help ease some of the workplace stress. So it's $5 worth spending either way.

Actually, if you look at the system on face value, it is not rigged. It is even better than a random number generator because the numbers are picked physically through a rotating assembly where the balls are dropped out. The numbers are not picked by a computer like Keno. There is no such thing as a truly random number generater that is calculated through a computer. If you find the formula used to generate the numbers, you can predict every number that will be drawn from then on. There was a guy that figured the formula out for the Keno games. He was thrown in prison.

Factor in state income tax and you get even less. Not all state has state income tax...but yeah....
