How about combining Taurus, MKS, MKT, Flex, and Volvo S80 sales together since they are all the same under the skin? Or maybe all but the Volvo since they are all sold under the Ford name?
That has been done. When it makes sense, you can use #1 Nameplate, #1 Brand or #1 company. It just depends on what you want to compare.

If you wanted to claim who is the #1 manufacturer of Mid Size cars, yes it would be fair to add Lexus to Toyotas totals. And if you wanted to discuss the #1 company for reusing architectures then you could add up all those Ford products.

So is GM the #1 truck maker in the world or not?

Bottom line is that Ford has been best selling truck for over 30 years. No arguing. I dont want to hear any stupid nameplate excuse. If ford wanted to make the F-150 under a different nameplate (they have at some points int he past) in direct competition to GMC they would still outsell GM trucks.

Dont get me wrong, i know this is a GM site, but facts are facts. I happen to love GM trucks. Ive owned a F-150 and silverado in the past, loved them both.

Lets just agree that Japanese trucks are a joke, eh?

I'm sorry, best selling truck or not; if you ever roll a GM truck over, and a Ford truck over, I want to be in the GM. Ford may be the best selling, but they sure can't build a roll over protected structure for their trucks. Every rollover case I've ever seen between the two, and the Ford roof is crushed almost down to the seats/dash, and that's even on just one roll. The GM trucks can at least retain some headroom in rollovers. Also if you peel off the door skin, and look at your side impact protection between the two trucks, you might rethink sitting in a Ford.

You know, just sayin'... Safety > most sales in my books.

Think of it this way: a Silverado 1500 buyer has more in common with a Sierra 1500 buyer than he has with a Silverado 3500 buyer. Its alright to add up the sales for all the different versions of Silverado (or Ram, or Sierra, or F-Series), despite the huge range that the lineup covers. And yet for some reason, nearly identical customers buying nearly identical trucks from a GMC dealership, for nearly the same price, can't get added in to compare against Ford's F-Series that competes directly with both the Sierra and Silverado, and even covers more truck niches than GM does with its 2 brands (like the F-150 Raptor and the F-450 King Ranch)
I think I understand what your saying here now. I

think Silverados and sierras get cross shopped and i could care less if you add them together and they total more sales than the f150. (I myself prefer the GMC, heck i owned an 09 all terrain sierra crew) But the current f150s are heads and shoulders above the current the sierra/silverado and the update they are getting is sorely needed.

Not always....

Take i.e. a Range Rover Sport and a VW Tiguan.... Out of the two, it's not the most rounded one that is the most aerodynamic.

A 69 Charger isn't exactly a very rounded car too, but it's still one of the most aerodynamic shapes to day...

Aerodynamic shape yes, but with a drag coefficient of .5, even an 08-current Escalade has a better coefficient with .36.

I'm not saying a brick is bad, just if manufacturer's have to make CAFE regs by specified dates, I would have thought they would move to the most flowing bodystyles around.
