I agree with the others, windshield tint is a red flag just about anywhere. The side windows you can probably get away with as long as you don't get pulled over for something else, but the front window, they will just keep targeting you.

In Washington state 35% is the max on autos, and only on the side and back windows, with a 6 inch strip across the top of the windshield. You are required to carry documentation of the percent of tint. State law states that the installer will apply a sticker to the drivers door post. I just had my 2012 done and they only gave me paper documentation. Works for me. If I get pulled over at least it is legal and installed by a licensed installer and I can show documentation. There is no real purpose in knowingly breaking the law. I just want to be left alone to enjoy my car. Being lawful is one way.

It's only a threat if your windows are rolled up as he approaches, which no one would do unless they are trying to hide something -- windows tinted or not.

Make it the law that windows must be rolled down before the officer approaches the vehicle, tint problem solved.

I'd pull it and retint. I have 35% on my side windows, and that's been dark enough for me, and never been harassed about it. I've been stopped twice in this car, and they both nailed me for not having a front plate, but never even looked twice at my 35% tint.

In Denver every car on the road has dark tint. Seriously I rarely see a car with out tinted windows. The legal limit in CO is 27% or 29%. I have 20% and have never gotten pulled over but I have heard of other people getting pulled over for it.

Bottom line is that if you have ANYTHING illegal about your car you chance being pulled over AND ticketed for it. Same with the no front plate thing.

If a cop suspects you for anything then they will use the tint or no plate as an excuse to pull you over and check you out for "other things".

I don't do anything illegal so I don't worry about it.

leave it, that way you can come back and bad mouth the cops when you get a ticket for it.

I wear sunglasses. No worries about getting pulled over for tint!

I also received a window tint ticket from our good ol' Blue boys of Michigan. Mine was 2 years ago, in my 08' Silverado. The only difference was he issued me a faulty equiptment ticket, or something like that, and it was a fine of 125.00 or show any officer that I removed the tint and pay no fine, plus mine was a no-points ticket. I just paid the ticket, because it would be about 100.00 to replace the tint and I just can't do a vehicle with no tint So now whenever I see a cop I just roll down my windows, problem solved!

You could chance it if you like, but if this same guy sees you again and you didn't take it off after he let you go for it, you can be sure he is going to stop you again and write you a ticket this time.

No you aren't in the minority. Remove it or chance getting a ticket next time.

So far I have yet to be pulled over. But whenever I have a cop that seems to be keeping a close eye on me, I just roll my windows down.
