Ford Mustang GT-R

I was looking around on the Seattle Auto Show website and saw this under the "Concepts/specialty" section.

Could this be a hint at Ford's Camaro response? There's no text associated with the picture, but here's the link anyway:

LOL, if they do it in that manner I will laugh. Shows how much air is required to keep Ford's radiators cool lol. Honestly that picture looks like Japan and Ford got together combining the import style to it. I dislike that concept more than any other I have seen

But as far as what I think Ford will do, is just add something to the body, like more curves or something in that category. They will try to give it a more appealing look as far as the body. Interior wise I can't see them doing much without losing the retro look or without making it worse :\.

Not trying to bash on Fords by the way, just stating what I think.

Me niether.... But, in any event - nice info, I had no idea Ford could muster "600" horsepower...

Oh, God, I hope not! I completely agree with Jeff on this one, Ricer-Mustang...

I could also just be yet another special edition...I swear, they're like roaches....

The Mustang GT-R concept was for a race-specific Mustang meant primarily for track duty. It was shown around the same time as the Camaro and Challenger concepts I believe, but wasn't really a response to them. It was more to show what Ford could do for a dedicated race vehicle.

+1

That is just a track oriented concept car.

Though, if I am not mistaken I think that GT-R concept actually came out prior to the inital release of the current generation Mustang in 2004.

Look on the net...

It's a bird, it's a Camaro.....

IT'S A RIPOFF.

Seriously, that was the drawing last year. People liked it, but a lot fo magazines said it bears a striking resemblence to a certain car that's been revealed already. Not naming any names.

We poke fun at Ford alot, but we still have respect for the other American companies. It's a friendly rivalry.

I think it's the new Cobra R. That would actually be competition for a Z06 I believe. Stock for sure, and maybe even a modded one. IIRC, they were around $150k at one point.

Yeah I wouldn't mind a sub 400hp V8 as the base V8 offering in the Camaro if it made it more affordable, in the mid 20,000 range. I think that is perfectly reasonable, as the G8 (a bigger, more upscale vehicle) with a 360 hp/390 lb ft engine starts at $30,000. Also, I agree that performance is subjective based on what you look for. Good performance to a 1/4 miler is not nearly the same as performance to an autocrosser, or a road racer, or a rally driver, or someone who enters open highway races like the Silver State Challenge. Each racing style has its own unique performance demands. I hope the new Camaro is well rounded enough to excel in many of them, just like the older ones were.
AMEN to that!
