The problem with what I'm asking is that the Cobalt that I priced out, at $200 over invoice, even at 4.9% APR and Blue Book for my trade, would still be $225 a month for 72 months. I'm asking them to go as low as they can, and then eat an extra $15 a month. I don't expect any of the dealers to be too excited to sell me a car under these conditions, but if I try, and I get lucky, I'll get a great deal on this car.

See if you can find an 07 Cobalt still sitting on the lot. You'll have to take what they have, but you can probably get a good deal on it.

Yeah, I've been looking at '07s with the sidenote that if they want to give me an '08 for an '07 price, that's fine with me as well. The two dealers I went to yesterday didn't have too many '07s left on the lot.

This is going to be an even better bet. Actually, I think you do need to be a member of USAA.com in order to build the car. If everything works out to be $225 a month, and you still want them to eat the $15, I don't think it's going to work.

I'd look into an 07, see what they have, and go from there. They will be hurting to sell off the 07's by the years end...have to pay taxes on them, and just might let one of them go for a steal.

Dealers can search much farther than 100 miles. The car you are looking for is out there. But, don't be suprised that when you find it, it has to be shipped from far off and they tack on a shipping fee of $500. If this is the case, it would be wiser to take the option of the sunroof, stereo system, whatever for $400, pay it and take the car.....or take what's on the lot. The main thing is....you can get what you want. But, you will probably have to pay for it. So, why not get something a little less and save for that Camaro down the road.

I can guarantee it won't depreciate at all. Dependability, if it has been restored and has a nice crate motor you should be all set. As for fuel mileage, well 2 out of 3 ain’t bad
I can not believe with as many car nuts as we have on this forum that no one has corrected you on your mistake… We’re slipping…

Good call. That front end is from a 70. 69's had the slanted (for the lack of a better term) front end. Was that the only thing you saw that gave it away?

Foose did a rather cool coversion to a Chevelle a while back. They took the front clip off of a 69 and tossed a 70's front end on it. It was something else.

Actually that front end is attached to a 70… Sorry had to...

But in all seriousness, there are many clues that separate the 69 form the 70.

*shakes head*

I know it's attatched to a 70.... . That's the last time I proof read, find my mistake, and leave it alone.

On second thought...how do you know it's not one of those 69's w/ a 70 front end? Hmmm???? ...like how Foose did his???

Seriously, what are the other indicators/differences between the 69 and 70? The front end is a dead give away. But, what are the other clues?

Yeah, like I said, I've been mainly looking at '07s already anyway (the rebate is higher). I made a couple more stops yesterday and still didn't find anything. The dealer suggested leasing the car, but I have to confess that I don't know enough about leasing to be comfortable with it.

Honestly, I think we're going to start looking at the Aveos. It doesn't really make much difference to me, I just wanted to try and see if I could get a dealer who was willing to make a sacrifice in order to gain a long-term customer. I know I can find an Aveo for the price I'm looking for. It's just a question of whether or not they've got one built like we want it. There seems to be a lot more Aveos around though (compared to Cobalts), there were about 7 or 8 on the lot I went to last night.

Alright, we found the car and the deal is done. The closest car that was built the way we wanted was about 250 miles south, but we had to go 30 miles north in order to find a dealer would would give us the deal we wanted. So they had the car driven up from Oregon today and we're going to go pick it up this afternoon. We ended up getting a "spicy orange" 2007 Aveo LS with power locks/windows, ABS, and side airbags (which I guess are standard on the Aveos).

It's a manual transmission, so that means I get to drive it until she learns how to drive stick. It may not be a Camaro, but I'm just happy to be driving a Chevy again.

Sounds like a pretty nicely equipped car. It was the sedan right, not the hatchback? I think those go by Aveo5s

Well, technically the Corolla is still mine and the Aveo is under her name, so the sig will have to stay. I would trade her outright, but my payment is about $120 a month more than hers, so it might not be quite fair.

Yeah, I think we got a pretty good deal on it. All the features we wanted and none of the ones we didn't. It's a sedan, not an Aveo5, though I would have been fine either way.
