This is NOT a "new process". Seems to me when orders opened in the fall of '08 for '10 Camaros, final pricing was still "to be announced"...
That still does not answer the question as to why ordering begins before pricing is announced.

Has to be about the interest generated, thats all I can think of. It would be nice to go about this in a normal manner though and have the numbers in front of you before you spend all the time and angst of going to all of the dealers in your area and hoping beyond hope that someone has an answer.:(

Because they can and they are in control. Case closed. End of discussion. There is no reason why. Stop asking.

Wrong. This is most certainly a reason. GM doesn't do a thing without having a specific reason. I will continue to ask until a reasonable answer is given.

It seems most of you weren't here in '08.

But I've been getting a crazy amount of deja-vu feeling reading through here the past month....

Have fun with that... You'll have you price and your car before you get a reason your satisfied with. Scott already gave the reason anyhow. You just apparently didn't like it.

Pricing has not been released because it is not ready to be released. Not everyone has signed off on pricing yet - there are a lot of different things to consider here - as Fbodfather said - 33% of the car is new! ONE THIRD OF THE CAR IS NEW! That is a lot of stuff to go through.

All of this speculation about pricing is doing more damage than good. If somebody posts it is going to be cheaper than it actually comes out for, people are going to be hurt as their dream car just became too expensive - and they are going to be angry at GM due to false information being spread. This is why GM jumps all over magazines stating the car is going to be priced at $XX,XXX. If somebody says it is going to be really expensive - people are going to quit waiting and MAY go and buy a different car - hurting sales and putting the program in jeopardy.

We are ALL excited about the ZL1 and the prospect of an absolutely killer car. GM has stated that the GT500 is the target - so take the information that they gave you and leave the speculation and guesses at home. GM is due to release the pricing as soon as they can. Then you can start speculation about the new mid engined turbo diesel 2013 Corvette based Aveo II Rally Sport Deluxe AWD.

Scott did not provide the reason. He simply stated that determining pricing is long and complex process, of which I'm well aware. The fact that determine pricing is a long and complex process does not explain why ordering occurs before pricing is announced.

Technically they haven't started accepting orders yet so perhaps this argument is pointless.
