I agree, also give these test to pple in free houseing and income apartments. Where the gov pays the rent. I don't know about maninbrown's post, "they should be executed". That is a little strong.

That's ok, but I do agree they should be sterilized after so many kids before they can continue to receive aid.

I dont agree with it. Not everyone on welfare sits on their ass and smokes dope. My mother raised me, and is still on welfair/section 8. She has been working her ass off to take care of me and my sisters, Making less than 15K a year! saying that everyone on welfair sits on their ass, and smokes dope, is no different than saying all young black/hispanic males are gang bangers and dope dealers. Im sure most of the people that agree with this have not had to walk in the shoes of people who do use welfare. While I do agree that there needs to be a system to ensure that people aren't abusing the system...this, and the reasoning behind it is wrong. IMHO. Everyone that uses welfair isn't on their ass smoking dope, some actually need the assistance, and go work much harder for much less than the people who complain about it. Im happy to pay welfair out of my taxes...hell take more. I look forward to the day that I can take care of my mother and her not have to worry about anything, because I'm taking care of it. Its the least I can do considering everything she's sacrificed for me!

The original post is not saying to abolish wellfare all together, only to deny it from the people that don't deserve it. If you fail the drug test, no check.

Better yet, if you fail the drug test, you should go to jail.

That's good. I am more than willing to offer help to people who need it. All I ask is that they do their own part to get ahead in life. I've seen many welfare recipients who really do try their best to become financially stable again. It's the ones who are just lazy and mooch off the government and my tax money because they can that are causing the problem.

I've always believed that you should have proof of some stable job before qualifying for welfare.

First off, AMEN! Drug test or no welfare check!!! This does not include the needy...those who are in need should get it. This is the way the government would want the program to run, but people find ways at getting around this....hence 2nd and 3rd generation welfare. It's a problem...a real problem...and like our member from Detroit, I see it all too often as well. For those that don't think it's a problem, OPEN YOUR EYES.

Correct. And I agree 100%

When you are dealing with someone who's 2nd generation welfare (and there's tens of thousands of families like this), you'd be saving a HUGE amount...and you saw how much one hair sample test cost. That would save US BIG money. It's needed where it's needed...and wasted waaay too much.

States that the average urine test is $44 and can detect most drugs only 1-4 days after use with the exception of pot and sometimes pcp. While a hair test is about $115-150 But is effective for up to 90 days. So if we could find out the average monthly welfare compensation received multiply it by 2 or 3 and subtract $135 we'd see how much savings we'd get. Since you only have to do a hair test every 2 or 3 months I think it would be the best choice for these purposes. Also they would only be able to take one test every 2-3 months since that's how long it would take them to be able to pass it and if you fail more than a certain number of times (3....4?) you are ineligible for certain period. Like 1 yr, 2yrs, 5 yrs. I think that will either force people to stop doing the drugs or to stop applying for welfare. If it saves money and lives, I think it's a good idea.
Yep on both accounts.

Yes. Solutions are more difficult. Let's start at the education level. If you want to work a Walmart type of job, more power to you. If you want to do even better for yourself and have the Hummer with 2 story huge house, pool in the backyard, jet skis, etc, THEN GO TO SCHOOL and GET AN EDUCATION. I tell kids everyday to quit being irresponsible, basically pull their heads out, and get good grades so they can get a scholarship and go to college....try to HELP the economy...make something of themselves. But, there are many who like the irresponsible life and end up in the Walmart type of job. I tell people, if you want to flip burgers, work a cash register, pump gas, etc then fine. That is what YOU want to do. But, don't come back crying later on that you need money and assistance. That was a decision made by YOU. Again, it starts w/ education. Do well in school, and there's a potential to move forward.

We are not saying that everyone sits on their rears. You are right. Many, many people do need the help. And, I'm all for helping them. But, living the rest of one's natural life on welfare isn't the answer...and the main point of the thread is that welfare recipients who are drug abusers do NOT deserve government assistance. Shoot...might as well call the government drug suppliers if they are funding the persons habit.

Exactly.

IMHO, something really needs to be done. I see it all too often too...and it's bad!

I understand where your coming from...and I understand why you can't understand where Im coming from. And thats understandable...lol Like I said I agree that there needs to be something done with those who abuse the system. That proposed method to me means that It would have to be assumed that all welfare recipients are drug abusers and you need to prove that your not to get assistance....If thats the case based on my life experience most police officers are crooked. So how about we have mini cameras, and recorders on police at all times to be reviewed daily, to ensure their performing their jobs properly? (Tag this isn't a jab at you...I'm just trying to explain my reasoning in a way it relates to you better ) essentially your punishing those who are doing the right thing as well as those who are in the wrong.

And on your point with education, low income areas dont have the same assets at their disposal as those areas that have higher income. I know first hand! There was a study on the news here and the said that "a person from chicago who graduates from high school in a low income area in chicago in the top 10% of his or her class and wants to become a doctor, on average will take 4 years longer because of the education gap." I personally worked 2 full time jobs in high school and pretty much was never there because I was at work. Luckilly I was blessed with some smarts, and Ive never failed any classes. But what about those who are in my situation what weren't as intelligent naturally? (not boasting at all, just being truthful)
What you see, or know of low income/welfare people isn't nearly the entire picture

I agree 100% with it, I've always B!tched and moaned about my tax money going to lazy beer drinking druggies...

To get money in a work environment (most places) you have to pass a urine test.....
This should be the same thing.. to get money from working people (welfare) you have to pass a urine test.

The problem I see is that, in Detroit, people EXPECT welfare! They know no different and BELIEVE they are owed. Generation to generation, as soon as someone hits legal age, they are on SSI, welfare, bridge cards or whatever else they can get on, pumping out babies, not accountable for a damn thing! I have seen it EVERY working day I patrol the streets of Detroit.

Am I pissed? Should you be? Hell YES!

Welfare recipients rape the government, me, you, John Q Businessman everyday.

You want to know what liquor and liquor tax and lottery is called? Poor man's tax. Why? 86% of welfare recipients play the lottery, drink alcohol or both. That statistic is a fact. Easy solution, pay out welfare, place as many party stores in the poorest communities to recoup the money.

This welfare, 8 babies, 7 different fathers, 7 all have different last names (law to qualify for welfare)

Sterilization, unconstitutional.
Welfare reform...yea right..Here comes Al Sharpton
Tell someone they will not get more welfare if have more kids? ACLU

Yes, there are people out there that qualify and do need, I am not against welfare for those that need. I am against welfare as a means to an end and an income that is abused to the detriment to childern, abused to buy $900jackets, abused when a person on welfare is driving a $40k SUV. If you are on welfare, act like it!
