But at the same time I can clearly see that poverty and failing banks produce alot of bad things that will effect me regardless of how I feel about it. One thing I like about discussing it here is we all share common ground on something like the Camaro but we are also different enough that we aren't parroting each others views. And it is a nice break from ABL, Stripe and my least favorite " What are you going to do when" threads, no offence to those that like those threads. Anyways, I appreciate you discussing this with me, if I ever write anything that offends you, hope you will forgive me.
I think you are spot on here. Debating/discussing your views with others who have differing opinions is a great way to expand your intellictual horizons. The problem is that some people don't know how to do that without losing their cool. We certainly have a lot of issues facing our country right now and we will all need to work together to get through some of them. And part of being an advanced nation is taking care of those who can't take care of themselves. But everyone needs to keep in mind that even the poorest people here in the US are in better shape than some of the middle class people in the rest of the world. Just go to China or India or places in Africa or the middle East. Those people live in hell. We really have no idea (generally speaking) how good we have it. We have been living high on the hog for a long time (20 years or more) and frankly living well beyond our means. It is time for the market to correct itself and punish us a little for being so lazy or stupid. Everyone should take this as an opportunity to become more financially educated and independent from debt. It is also a great opportunity to invest and position for the future. I am definitely with you that threads like this are a nice break from ABL and whatever the "freak out of the day" happens to be.

In the end we are all in this together and I want to see my country united and healthy again, I don't care how it happens, just that it happens.

We can't even get a true leader to run for office.
Where have all the leaders gone.

The tax hikes that everyone is fearing I don't think will come. At least not to a scary level. (Providing you're talking about cars.)

Yea I agree, I think the media scares most honest people away from government, seems like you have to be willing to have your whole life put up for display and ridicule, not to mention your family's. I don't know many that haven't made a mistake or three in their youth, I prefer to keep mine in the past.
As for taxes, federal never add up to much for my income level, except the self-employment tax, that always hurts, espescially when I know I'll probably never get a social security check at this rate. Its the state and local that kills me, here in Nebraska we have 7.5% sales, I pay about $2700.00 a year in property tax on a house valued at about $140.000.00. I think we have about ever tax government has every devised to pick a working persons pocket, business property, business district levy, gasoline tax, its just endless... whew, I need a cigarette, damn cigarette tax. actually I quit smoking years ago, but the taxes on a pack of cigarettes here in Nebraska are about three dollars, unbelievible.
Well, I got to go do a tattoo, somebody's gonna have to pay for this mess.

We tried to have a political forum months ago and it seemed like the members were mature enough to respecfully discuss things. But it didn't work out. The discussions turned into debates which turned into flaming, and there was too much spill over into the other sections. The moderators didn't have enough time to baby sit the political forum, moderate the rest of the site, and enjoy our time here. I would like to talk politics here (I have a slightly different leaning than most of you) and other mods would have liked to join in as well. But the fact is, it was abused by some people and now its gone for everyone.

Well that and I'm Canadian so I try to be un-American
