Demand for everything falls in the long run. I'm sure most of that pent up demand was relieved with the Mustang, GTO, and other performance cars being around; it's not like everyone who had a 4th gen Camaro crawled under a rock and never bought another performance vehicle until the 5th gen.

I wojuld be willing to bet that it will be short lived as usual. This is my 6th Camaro and know that the Mustang will always be the overall sales king. The camaro will have its moments though. Anyone willing to bet that at the end of this decade, the Mustang once again will have sold more than the Camaro? Car for a car, this could be the official contract. Anyone?
It may, but then again GM dominated for decades and all of a sudden Toyota came out of nowhere. As I said, it strictly depends on what time period you are looking at. Saying that, I will wholeheartedly agree that it will be hard to overcome the sales the Mustang has racked up over the last 40 years.

EDIT: Also, I would like to point out that these advertising advantages you speak of are open to any of its competitors, however, it is up to those competitors on rather or not to use them.

You missed the point. If you don't think several years of hype leading up to the release of the Gen5 Camaro didn't create a pend up demand you are strongly mistaken.

The Camaro is hardly advertised at all, let alone 'heavily advertised'. Transformers, I can't think there are too many 10 year olds buying Camaros because of bumble bee, or fathers of said 10 year olds buying one t the insistence of their kid. If transformers had a major impact on sales I would have expected a very large number of cars ordered in Rally Yellow with black stripes. But RY has consistently been one of the least popular colours and recently was the least popular colour. And don't forget, there was a Mustang that got almost as much screen time in the first Transformers. As popular as those movies were, I can gaurentee that more potential buyers saw the car at autoshows, and looked at it for far longer too.

No, I attribute its success to its design and engineering, just like most of the other GM releases since ~2008 that have been doing the same thing: winning buyers over and gaining segment share. It could be argued, particularly with the new engines, that the Mustang is the better car. But it can't be denied that the masses consider the Camaro to be the cooler car, and not because some geeky kid had one in a movie about intergalactic robots.

I'm thinking of a little pent up-demand and not the sales decider as you make it out to be.
