I think some states already have vehicle codes which already stipulate things of this nature...bumper height, tires must be inside fender..., so on and so forth. If anything, this creates oppurtunities for companies to build new and exciting products that look good, customize the vehicle, keep the vehicle legal, and make it safe for everybody on the road.

It is proposed knowing full well it won't pass, but will be a feather in some dumbasses cap come next election...
Every new house here in phoenix is built in an HOAand i hate it

then said person would need to decide whether he wants his truck to be able to take him to work, or if he prefers to walk he can soup it up and monster truck lift it and play in the mud with it where its safe.

Lowrider guys and folks who build hotrods certainly lower their car more than 3".

You're missing the point. People shouldn't have to "decide" or be "forced" to give up the vehicle of their choice that they enjoy. If someone said, "I don't like loud cars, make everyone crush them," would you want to? Doubtful.

I agree. I'm as big a critic as you will find about the nanny state and socialist agenda but SEMA needs to pick their battles more wisely.

I don't see a problem with this law. I'd rather not have giant 4x4's on the road crashing their 30" bumpers directly into my windshield. And if it gets rid of the donks, that's just an added aesthetic bonus.

Agreed. Not all laws are stupid. Pick your battles, and the 3" restriction is reasonable. I go off-roading with my friend and he has a lifted truck (not above 3") and a regular Jeep Wrangler (unlifted) and both cars can navigate tricky stuff equally well. Any more than this is vanity. And if you really "needed" more than this - then you should truck it like people with drag cars.

I may drive a high-performance car but it functions in a safe manner to other vehicles. A driver of an extremely lifted car cannot function on a public road in a safe manner - no matter how safe one drives, accidents do happen.

The proper vehicle with the right drivetrain doesn't need a lift over 3" to go just about anywhere. If it's mud bogging you want to do than build a purpose built vehicle just for that and tow to the mud. I do believe that some of these laws are needed to keep people from going to far. This really isn't my fight though because I live in Pa.

What happens if we give ground on this and then they decide to ban all lifts entirely?

Simple - fight that fight, and not this one.

That's like saying we should protest against jail because what happens if they enact a law to send parking offenders to prison?

If we give ground on this it emboldens those who want to trample on the rights of enthusiasts. While this may not effect you, it certainly effects another part of the hobby. We represent all facets of the hobby, not just muscle cars and street rods.

It does affect me. Those trucks with bumpers at my eye-level are frightening. I do not want to see one of those trucks going through a red light coming toward me.

Maybe there are some machine gun enthusiasts who feel they have a right to mount M60s on their hood ala "Death Race" - I would oppose their "right" to endanger me on the road also.
