Definitely 3 cars...
1999 Lotus Elise (2 liter JDM Type-R engine, remapped to 240bhp, for a 690kg car, loads of fun). Pics taken the day I put her on a trailer, and drove it all the way to Paris to the next owner. ![]() ![]() Two days later, I replaced it with this: TVR Tuscan, one of four cars (and the only working one) used in the movie Swordfish. And not "attached" to it in the same manner as to the two above, but love this one also, for not missing a beat in over 120.000 miles in the past 2 years, both on and off road: |

Funnily I developed more emotional attachment for my ex Neon than my mini-van. The Neon was a piece of crap but that's kind of why I liked it, because I could just drive it without worrying about it. It was like the "little engine that could". The mini-van on the other hand is my practical car that I do somewhat take care of because it has an important useful function - sort of like a refrigerator.
I was also sad to see my first car go, a Jeep Cherokee Ltd. As useful and fun as that car was though, it didn't "feel" reliable. Even though it was tough and reasonably reliable, it just felt old and worst for wear. It was a 99 model, but I felt I had to take care of it lest it fall apart. Maybe because I could help getting rock chips on the front. That car must have had hundreds of rock chips, and I spent a great deal of time touching them up only to see the touched up parts flake off by themselves or having to touch up new rock chips. This must have given me the perception of a car "getting old". Currently I also have an Infiniti G35x sedan which I really love. I think the design is classic and it has awesome zippy performance. I think I definitely have an emotional attachment just because it's so enjoyable to drive and does its job so perfectly. I love how I can drive all year around because of the AWD. It's a feel-good car, with an unbeatable combination of utility, performance, good looks, prestige and luxury. Too bad the current G37 looks so dorky, and the Acuras look like crap because when it comes to eventually replacing the G35x, there are few AWD Japanese replacements - I like the Audis but I don't like their reliability and maintenance costs. I guess I could "settle" for the new IS350 AWD :-D Finally of course, I have my "beast", which I haven't driven much because of the blasted snow. No doubt I will really develop strong feelings for it once summer comes around! |

i want to add my 73 road runner as well. this one has been in my family since it was brand new. my dad bought it new when he got back from vietnam in '73 for a whopping $3800. he got married in '77, i was born in '80 and it became the "family car." i was brought home from the hospital in this thing, which may explain my love affair with ma mopar and cars in general! my mom would put me in a clothes basket and wrap me up in blankets and that was my car seat on the front passenger side floor!
not very safe, but hey, it was the early 80s!after '84, my brother was born and the road runner was parked at my grandparents house and my dad would rarely drive it cause of having two young kids and work, he had no time! then in about '86, he parked it in the carport at my grandparents and it sat there until 1999. it only had 52k on the dash. i can remember going over to my grandparents house at like age 9 or 10 and going out to pretend to drive the road runner as it sat in what was basically a shed with no door, so the back end of the car was exposed to the elements for all those years. it was the coolest car in the world to me (well aside from the general lee or kitt) because it had the road runner cartoon on it and the speedometer went to 120 (as a kid, that was a lot!)!we eventually had the car flat bedded to our house when i was 18 where my dad and i spent months getting it back to drivable conditions. it was a great learning experience and time well spent with dad. after i bought my own house in 2007, he wanted me to take it. i couldnt believe it. he said because i begged and begged him to bring it home so we could work on it and put many hours in on it myself, i could have it as a housewarming gift! i will never sell this car! for anyone curious...its all original. buffed the paint out and it was still good! wheels are the only thing new. they are replicas of the magnum 500's that were on there originally. sorry for the length...didnt mean to give you my life's story!

Onward and Upward.

My Camaros have always held high sentimental value to me.
My '96 3.8L was the first Camaro I bought new and with no outside assistance. I did very minor mods to it but loved it all the same. I drove it over 1/2 way across the country on numerous occasions and that engine was a tough SOB. I totalled it in '98 during a fit of stupidity. I almost cried when I got out of the car and the radiator was leaking dexcool all over the ground. Under the purple glow of a street light, it looked like blood. My '99 Z28 was just amazing. I kept it bone stock for the first couple years of ownership and when I had to leave it behind for my trip through basic training and WOCS, I kept pictures of it on my locker doors. I'll never forget when my folks brought it down to Atlanta (where I met them to swap out vehicles) and I hopped in it for the first time in a few months. It was like seeing an old friend for the first time in years. I then spent the next year modifying it and finally had it just the way I wanted it when my ex-wife's car grenaded (she was still in college at the time). Me being a giver, I traded it in for a car for my ex. I should have kept it and traded her in early. This led me to my favorite truck that I've owned.... My '02 S-10 ZR2 wasn't a racer, but it was fun, nearly impossible to get stuck, and would catch air on the tank trails of Ft. Rucker, AL. It was black but numerous times, I'd bring it home and it would be orange like the Alabama clay. I sold it when I got stationed in Germany, but in hind sight, I should have hung on to it. My '10 Camaro SS was me making good on a promise to myself that if I could ever afford one again, I'd get a Camaro. I, like the vast majority of people on this forum, followed the rebirth of the Camaro with extreme interest. This past summer the timing was right and I went to go test drive one. The conversation with the dealer went something like this: "What can I help you with today?" "Well, I'd like to test drive that white Camaro SS over there and if I like it, I'll be driving it home this evening." I fell in love the second I slipped behind the controls and that was that. Convincing my wife wasn't much of a challenge. I just hopped into the passenger seat and she fired the engine back up and immediately had permagrin. She loves to drive it every bit as much as I do. I can't describe the absolute excitement I still feel when I hop in and fire her up, whether to go to work, home from work, or any other jaunts we take. Now that we have a newborn, I can't wait for her to get old enough to enjoy the ride either. Maybe someday, I'll let her take it for a spin as well. -Tim

Owning SSes for 50 Years

I think I had the emotional attachment most for my 1968 Dodge Charger RT. It was everything a guy could want back in the late 60s and it got more thumbs up than almost any car I've owned.

I have to say my 5th Gen SS is my favorite car ever and I have owned many. Right now I think the only way I would ever get rid of it would be if i could no longer afford the payments.
But the in the emotional attachment category was my second car, a i965 6 cyl automatic white 2 door Falcon Futura I inherited from my grandfather. Besides it being his car and reminding me of him I replaced that drive train with a 351 and a four speed in my drive way. I spent countless hours on this learning how to work on a car. In the end the car was fast and surprised a few GTOs and Road Runners. It also was somewhat of a legend in my town. And the girls.... Every time I see one at a car show I get flashbacks. Good ones.

I've had Cars I've been emotionally attached to . First was my 86 bronco fullsize love that thing still have it. Then when I bought my first own new car it was a 2001 daewoo lanos hatchback, still have it, it will become my spring summer and fall daily driver. I also have a 95 jeep wrangler with a 2.5 4 cylinder that hates moutains. Love that thing to, been dependable and durable even with hitting deer and a cow. Now I own my 5th gen and I love it to. The jeep and the camaro isn't going anywhere
