I'm still sticking by the idea that "The Stig" is whatever pro racer they can get at the moment to do the run. This won't be the last twist in this saga.

They have a driver on payroll... Find the parachuting into a convert. segment, he couldn't wear the helmet for that piece.

That is "Schumi's" personal FXX. How else did it get on TG?

Kudos to both Ferrari and Michael for bringing the "fastest lap" vehicle to the stage.

I would guess the "real" Stig would have turned in a lap time about 2-3 seconds off the actual time Schumi managed.

Be real. The actual "Stig" on TG only has "lower class" racing series experience. Granted, he is better than most of us, but....:-)

Too bad we will never know.

Stig < Schumacher. Any day of the week.

BTW, who made Mikka Hakkinnen CRY and retire after the 2 year battle with Schumacher?!?!

Mikka is a VERY talented driver. But even he had to "Cry Uncle" in the face of Schumi.

That is a shame.

For now, I will cheer for Fernando Alonso. That dude knows how to DRIVE. :-)

He was the Tiger Woods of open wheel racing... I imagine Ferarri would let only him track the car for Top Gear. It was a set-up, he isn't (usually) the stig, good show tho.
It was a shell game. But a good one, nevertheless.

Some say he has no face under his helmet

Others say that the outline of his left nipple is exactly the same shape as the Nurburgring.

All we know, is he's... Ben Collins?

Some say Top Gear's elusive masked driver is former Formula Three driver Ben Collins. Some say the Sunday Times unmasked Collins today based on the financial reports of his company. All we know is... they're apparently right. Told ya so. For years the identity of BBC TV's Top Gear test driver, the Stig, has been the subject of frenzied speculation. Now his identity appears to have been revealed and shattered by his plan to publish his memoirs.
The name of the driver who hides his identity behind a white helmet was revealed today as Ben Collins, 35, a former Formula Three driver. He was a double for Daniel Craig driving James Bond's Aston Martin in Quantum of Solace.
Collins, who describes himself on his website as boasting "a reputation for being fast and aggressive," has long been a favorite name bandied about as the masked driver.
Last week, the BBC confirmed it was trying to put the brakes on the Stig's planned autobiography, saying it breached "agreed contractual and confidentiality obligations" relating to the programme.
Today the Sunday Times named Collins based on the financial reports of his company, Collins Autosport. In December 2003, a month after the new Stig's first appearance –- an all white-clad driver replacing the previous "black" Stig -– a financial report noted the company recorded a "cornerstone year" based on "driving services provided for the BBC, mainly in the Top Gear programme". The document recorded it offered "good long-term prospects for continuing income".
But this doesn't mean Collins is the only Stig. It just means he's likely been the "day-to-day" Stig, the driver they use to do most of their timing, potentially leaving openings for guys like Richard Hamilton or Michael Schumacher to step in as a "special" Stig for publicity stunts.
Also, this may mean, especially if he's looking to publish his memoirs, that Collins is no longer the Stig. One thing's for sure — speculation will likely continue unless the BBC or Collins are willing to step up and speak out. (Hat tip to everyone who sent this in!)

Interesting! I was wondering how long they could keep it a secret in today's information age. They used the oldest trick in the book. They followed the money. I was thinking maybe the Stig was Derek Bell. Missed that one, didn't I?!

It was suspected for awhile, yeah... This all but confirmed it, along with him being the BBC stunt advisor of record when hampster had his big crash.

They will probably get rid of him and have a new stig now that the cat is out of the bag officially.

Heh. Obviously not. Oh well.

It is kind of a downer though. Schumacher was the man.

Do you remember which references because I remember hearing about 2 years ago that it was indeed Collins but then they aired that Schumacher episode so I thought they did that to squash the rumor and unmask the real stig.

Don't feel bad. I didn't realize it the first time I watched that episode either.
