Early dex cool did have a problem, It happened to me and one of my friends. My 96 Blazer and his 98 S-10 both came with it, and because most of the time they were driven on short trips and never fully got up to temperature in about 2 years the Dex Cool jelled, and stopped up the heater core. The dealer wanted 96 dollars to flush it out and refill it, but I did it for 4 bucks and then refilled it with regular old prestone...

But they must have fixed that problem because I have had several cars with it since and none ever developed this problem again.

True, but there are still some people who drain it all out and replace it with whatever off brand AutoZone sells. What they don't realize that assuming no contamination or leakage, DexCool will last the life (or ownership period) of most vehicles.

150 000 miles on the 97, never had a major problem with it. Still averages over 30 mpg, 35 if I try really hard. And this is average, not pure highway, on a 12 year old car with 150k miles. Who says GM can't make efficient cars?

Oh, for the record they don't have ecotecs. They have Saturn engines. Yours had an soch. Mine has a dohc.
