I have a USC source that broke down the hire like this..

1. They were loosing recruits. They needed an immediate hire, and they needed someone who would run a similar system to the one in place (particularly on offense). Kiffin was the ex-OC from USC, and they knew he would be an immediate hire based on how much he loved the school.

2. They couldn't bring in a real big name coach, who would walk into that situation with pending punishment for the school?

3. Kiffin is expected to be a 'betweener' coach. He will do the dirty work keeping the program going in the right direction (yea right) while the sanctions are carried out... then they will go after someone else if Kiffin hasn't performed to the level USC fan's feel is acceptable.

If the NCAA finds USC paid players, they are likely gonna have to vacate any wins they had while said players were on the team.

They will likely reduce scholarships, I hope they prevent USC from playing in BCS games for a number of years.

The violations have gotten so bad recently, I think the NCAA needs to hit USC with the Death Penalty if they indeed paid at least two players (Bush and McKnight). I think they need to send a message. You know its bad when a violator (Lane Kiffin) is publicly accusing another university of violations.

Also, USC was allegedly committing serious violations in their men's basketball program as well. The NCAA is investigating that as well.

Yea, dont get your hopes up.

If the NCAA found anything big I think they would have come out with it by now. The McKnight thing didnt have anything to do with the school.
