Test drove one yesterday, along with a taco and a tundra. Olive green mettalic color and look of the truck is tough, power is ok I guess, handles decent, has some good electric seat perks and goodies, remote start, etc .
price tag at 45k though meh Also shock replacement options and suspension in the future replacement wise is a giant question mark due to the specific engineered system they developed. I'm on the fence, taco was good also but engine is slightly more of a dog. Tundra has power and looks wise but doesn't fit in the garage where the other two would. Either way nice truck, but backseat is the smallest of the three. Just 45k is scary

Also, the Colorado actually has more rear legroom than the Taco. Check out the specs. Maybe you was referring to the extended cab Tundra and I misunderstood, but if you was referring to the Colorado I don't agree with your smallest backseat comment. Last but not least....45K scary? Maybe so, but what other equally as good offroad truck are you going to get for less than that? None. For the best stock offroad potential, this truck starting in the low 40s is it. If you are wanting to start cheaper and then mod the truck with your own suspension components and build it how you want it, then ZR2 is probably not where you should be looking. But as far as best offroader for the price, it takes the crown.

Also, have you considered the Z71? Its a lot cheaper than the ZR2, but less capable off-road -though probably better when the pavement ends than the Tundra you were looking at.

Eh, not drastically so. Believe a 4WD Crew Cab, Short Box Z71 starts high 30s. Add a few options, boom, over 40k.

A Z71 Crew Cab Short Box 4WD starts at $36,775. Pretty well equipped already.
Actually with incentives, $35k right now.

And its only fair to take any options you are adding to the Z71 and add them to the ZR2 as well.

It was a double cab or crew cab as some call it, and had the v6. Takes the crown is debatable for sure on that one. I physically sat in both backseat taco and zr2 with front seat in equal driving position for me, the zr2 was closer to my head then the taco and I'm only 5'10.
Also slightly closer to my knees as well, so stated dimensions maybe don't add up after real world testing. The regular colorado is average, and doesn't come in the olive..
