Transmission and differential cooling. They're straight off the C6.R ZR1 race car actually.
The vents on the taillights are functional as well.

Even the quarter windows are a necessary design feature, but I don't remember why.

the ugly rear was a necessary design feature too. keeps other drivers from getting too close.
