This is my first post in this section, since I've become a gun owner again. I last owned a revolver in the mid '80s, an H&R .22.
I've just acquired a couple revolvers from my dad's estate. One is a Colt Cobra .38 snub-nose (for my wife), and for me a S&W model 686 .357 Magnum (6-shot, 6" barrel). Great hand guns, both. I do know about a recall for the 686, and I took it to my local gun shop to see if it was done or not, and if S&W will still do it. Apparently the cylinder will bind if using certain brands of .357 magnum ammo. I'll have to post up photos once I get it back, along with the Cobra. |

In each state it is different. I live in Texas and am very knowledgeable about the laws here, but I do know that Maryland (assuming that is where you live) is a "May Issue" state. That means you need to not only qualify, but also write a letter stating why you want the gun and the state "May Issue" the license. Here are some sites that will give you the info you are looking for:
http://www.usacarry.com/maryland_con...formation.html http://www.ehow.com/how_2064603_get-...ed-weapon.html The best I can tell, Maryland does not recognize any other states permits, so getting a Utah, Florida or Pennsylvania permit will not help you there. You asked about carrying a gun in your car. It is illegal to have any loaded weapon in Maryland in your vehicle unless you get your CCW. Some states allow you to have one in the car, but Maryland is not one of them. If you are able to get a permit, you also need to be very careful when you travel. Washington, DC DOES NOT allow you to have a weapon and will not recognize your permit. So you would have to leave the gun home whenever you travel there.

I just sold my Springfield XD45 last month. I know it's not an XDM, but it's essentially the same gun. Really liked the gun a lot, but as I'm sure you know, .45 is expensive to shoot and I really wanted at 1911 instead. That is really the only reason I sold it. I would own one again, but my next polymer .45 will be an FNP45.

Love my bushmaster M4/A3 with an A.C.O.G. 4X scope on top, also love my f.n./fal its actually a full blood f.n. minus the 7 American parts for the import ban, getting costly for .308 but still love it, like my berretta 92FS its nice to shoot and cheeper than .45 but it will never replace the springfield opperator I use to have, that was an awesome piece and I wish I still had it but I traded it on the fal, 50yrd pistol for a 1500yrd rifle? Pretty easy choice to make, next will be an fn 5.7, that has to be the best shooting pistol I have ever shot!

Oh, and 40 ammo is a little cheaper than .45 by the way. Just my two cents on how well the XDM's shoot and perform.Be safe! |

I have a good ol' fashioned S&W .357 with a 5" barrel, nickel plate. Always nice to have six for sure and a speed loader ready for round 2.

I heard a saying once:
Colts and Kimbers you show to your friends. Glocks you show to your enemies. |

well, I don't know about that.... I've seen one fail twice now. Once was a guy's Glock 21 (.45ACP), that was because of the ammo though. The bullet was a reload and was seated too low and it stretched out the neck of the casing so much that it wouldn't feed into the chamber. the other time happened about 2 weeks ago to me with a Glock 35 (.40S&W) at the range. Fired the last shot, took my finger off the trigger and felt a piece of metal sticking out of the side of the weapon..... The trigger pin snapped in half and well... doesn't really work too good after that . I've shot a wide variety of Glocks (17, 17L, 19, 21, 22, 34, 35, to name a few I can remember), put probably over a thousand rounds through them in the past few years... still not a big fan of them though. The grip angle just doesn't feel natural to me, and the U shaped rear sights aren't my choice for sure. I hadn't shot one in close to a year, went a few weeks ago, shot 5 shots, reload, 5 shots etc (about 60 total) at 15-20 yards.... not too bad for being rusty though ![]() |
