Exactly why EV’s don’t make sense for many if you can’t charge at home. We are also moving towards a society of renters. Hell just a few miles from my place in MI, there are mobile homes (old), old homes, RV trailer park (old and poor) there is no option to charge at home let alone buy a 12yr old EV that needs a battery shortly after purchase of EV. My $53000 total including financing 2024 Canyon AT4 has 33000 miles. 5 trips to Florida, trips hauling items to property in MI over the past 2 years. We sold our home nearly 2 years ago. In a rental townhome with Electric panel in basement far side and probably a few grand to power an EV in garage.
The property in SW MI is a project home so just to run Electric for EV will get in the way and the garage dropped a phase so can’t 220v anything til I run new wires. I can only imagine the charging costs of 33000 miles at pay to charge chargers and lost productivity looking for chargers that work (unless a Tesla) and of course waiting for the charge. Only thing close to my AT4 is a Rivian Pickup and those are $20k more plus. That said I look at EV’s. Hummer pickup or Silverado are good looking to me. Used Model S Plaid I could charge at home would be sweet. Never say never, but ya have to be able to charge at home for it to truly make sense. And the biggest reason why I wasn’t EV is because of the governments hands and the $7500. Now that the incentives for the people that didn’t even need them are gone, they can now backup their words with EV support with more $’s from their wallet/purse.
