Great pictures of your Journey Rick. It has to be fun taking such a long ride in a classic Chevy. I look forward to seeing what you do to the Impala once you get it home. My vacation starts today. We are heading to Cleveland for the weekend to catch a couple of ball games. On Monday we head to Rehoboth beach in Delaware. We are taking the truck and trailer and camping in a state park. My wife tells me the campground is only 400 yards from the beach so I hope the weather is nice. It will be good to get away from work for a while.

I have about 23 hours into this Impala cleaning it up. Cleaning wasn't so bad, but this old single stage ( no clear coat) paint is kinda dead. But I did the best I could with what I have to work with. The original interior is fantastic! And those mag style hub caps are hot.

Dude, she's a beaut!! Great job!! I love seeing your pics and reading your story. Is that a 283/Glide car?

How's your arm feel putting all that elbow grease in the work?
But what I can see from the shine it was really worth it. The hub caps look great on the car.

The car looks great Rick & enjoyed following your trip too.

I'm back from the Fest early. The rabbit was depressed & would not eat. She is happy now. I had fun getting to see some of my old Fart friends & lots of other Camaro5 friends. I got to meet Mike Judge & had him sign Ruby just before leaving today. It got really steamy hot today & again I ended up on the verge of heat exhaustion. I did not have a good drag race trip. I got to make lots of test & tune runs but was one & done in bracket. I did not even get to run in V6 class. I thought I had run qualifying & Iced down the manifold & went to buy things I wanted to get Ruby with my birthday money. When it was time to start running eliminations they said I had run the last round of time trials and not in qualifying so I was not not in eliminations. Sooooo, I was out.

By that time I was feeling the heat exhaustion & ready to go home. I am tired & will work on what few pictures I have, tomorrow after washing Ruby. Mike was in charge of the cameras. We are not doing well with the go pro learning curve. Not sure if I got one video or none.

Thursday I did not get to do much on the NCM track. It rained much of the day from misty to really heavy downpours. We had to run with our windows down. I said, Not going to happen in my cloth interior in heavy rain. I took 2 laps in a drizzle then got off because the car did not feel like it was shifting right but I really think I am just not used to how the car feels in that kind of spirited driving situation since having the headers & tune. Then it dried out & I was in line to go again & just as I was at the front ready to enter the track it started coming down torrentially. I did one lap & got off. You could hardly see the track. My car was rather wet inside & the outside was covered in sand.

Friday was better. I was a little intimidated by the autocross course but I did pretty well for a rookie. Each run was better than the one before, I didn't collect any cones, did not break anything & did not damage the car. Then I worked the autocross track for the afternoon.

Today I bought 2 new under hood bling items for Ruby & messed up in the drags. Saw lots of folks every day that I talk to on the forums & had some fun in the parking lot parties. There were some friends who got hurt, got into trouble, had heated "discussions" & messed up their cars so my little issues were minor & easily put into perspective.

Pics tomorrow after Ruby gets a bath. Maybe a few I the morning. We'll see.

Thanks so much everyone. My right shoulder does hurt.

Yes, it is a 283/Glide car. Tons of thumbs up here at the cruise tonight.

Sorry you had to return home early Jan. Sounds like you still did some cool stuff. Looking forward to your pics.

I got a call from some of my club friends & we went out to eat & a movie. So Ruby is still filthy but I'll get her cleaned up soon. WE had fun & it was good to get out for my birthday instead of working. I got some of the pics posted up but got sleepy & did not get finished. Thread here:

Got on a private "closed" road and had some fun. First thing was testing out Launch Control. PTM 3, clutch in, pedal to the floor, gave a good three second count, RPMs settled in at 3,600-3,800 or so. Let out the clutch fairly fast, and with a small chirp off I went. The computer kept the torque at maximum grip, with very very little wheel spin and maximum acceleration.

Kept the pedal to the floor so I could do the No Lift Shifting. Not my first time so it was flawless. First time I failed, my brain just out of normalcy automatically let off when I hit the clutch. It's just weird to keep it to the floor and push in the clutch without letting off.

Then for fun I tried another run this time with the Exhaust Diverters Wide Open! OMG it was Crazy LOUD.

Best run topped out in the mid 160s! What a rush. I also tried slamming on the brakes and bring it to a full stop as fast as it could be done, from the 120s to Zero. Those brakes are equally impressive.

Very cool. Slow morning at work which is good. Giving me time to catch up in what happened while I was out & get back into the swing of things. Afternoon will be busy if everyone shows up then getting back into the swing of exercise class. I have slightly tweaked a tendon or nerve or something in my left shoulder blade. I just get a periodic twitch/tightening then it releases after a few seconds. Weird.
