I think the main problem that the smaller trucks face is was an engineering push to 'go bigger' -higher towing, more payload, bigger engines, etc. But from anything I've heard, people who want smaller trucks generally weren't asking for improvements there. They want something with a bed for oversized/bulk cargo (its hard to haul gravel in an SUV) or maybe they've got a snowmobile/jet ski or something that only weighs a few hundred pounds. By and large, they wanted something that was efficient & small enough to not be cumbersome when driving around in town.

I read a comment somewhere about a salesman who said that when a decent used Ranger hit the lot, it sold right away. Whereas they had a larger Colorado on the lot and it had been sitting there for 3 months.

I have a Ranger extended cab and it is the right truck for me. I use the bed fairly often. I have always had a truck, and plan to always have a truck in the future, but a fullsize is not something I need.

Soon, b/c of a growing family I will be searching for a 4 door small truck. Yes, the mileage won't be worlds better than a newer modern full size, but I'm not looking to spend new vehicle money either....so if I can get 18 - 19 mpg average versus 14 - 15 average....AND spend less on the initial purchase thats what I will do.

Seeing these spy shots of the new Colorado/Canyon I'm a little worried that they are still too big...they look just as big or bigger than the current ones but probably not. I really really hope they can offer the truck with a decent mpg average, and at a price that isn't just a hair under fullsize. If not, they may as well kill off the truck right now.

Not looking for an S-10. Just a small/mid size truck that makes sense. Looking forward to their reveal.

I saw one of these on I-10 with Sonoran plates a few days ago. Threw me off as I hadn't seen one before. It almost appears smaller than an S-10. I didn't like it but maybe a use for it in Mexico. I've also seen a few of the crew cab Rangers from Mexico running around Tucson. Not sure why Ford never brought them here, but that's their loss.

Care to elaborate on this a little further? The s10/Sonoma never really did any one thing great but made for a good small chore truck with decent mpg's. You keep saying the newer smaller trucks are focusing a lot on fuel mileage so why would they not be a good replacement?

Because the new midsize trucks won't be that small. Mark Reuss spoke about them a few months ago and he was talking 90% the size of a K2XX Silverado.

In the sense that they'll be for those who want an alternative to a full size with better FE and have no need for the payload/towing capacity of the full sizes, then yes, they're similar to the GMT-325s in that regard. But if you're wanting a compact truck like the 325s, these aren't it. They're still going to be pretty big.

Yeah...I think the compact truck is long gone...although in reality a w/t single cab Colorado is a pretty small truck still....but that's not even close to what I need lol.

Possibly a hint to the next camaro or something totally different but still awesome? I'm sure even if its not the next camaro cousin it should give some insight on the specs to the next camaro.
