Help please with transmission issues: see post http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...77#post7984777

8 AM appointment at dealership, doubt transmission special guy will be there at 8, but bringing a book with me and will plant my ass at the dealership until we do a test drive together.

Just can not get my head around why my 16 year old Buick Riviera transmission, with 68,000 miles, shifts so smooth even under high speed acceleration shift changes smooth as silk and not noticeable (and the Riviera is factory supercharged so it accelerates very fast). Whereas, my 2011 Camaro, with about 6,500 miles, auto transmission seems to hesitate/struggle, or as dealership previously documented a 'Flare' between lower gear shifts (revs jump between gear shift changes in lower 3 gears). Issue only in lower gears, upper gears shift smooth as silk and not noticeable. If you click onto the link above you will see GM replaced the TCM (transmission control) when the auto only had a few thousand miles. Computer testing indicated no issue, but test drive with transmission guy did indicate a gear shift issue. So now back to the same issue which I would like to get resolved before my drive train warranty expires.

Comments, suggestions, experiences from other V6, A6 drivers would be appreciated. Just can not think that GM could give me so many smooth shifting auto transmissions in the past (been driving since the late 1960s), yet my 2011 Camaro hesitates (flares) between only 1st and 3rd gears.

Signed frustrated.

I've heard of torque converter issues with our cars. I don't know the particulars, but you might be able to search C5 and find something.

Not quite sure, but seeing the leaves turning colors and falling might be triggering my seasonal affective disorder. I don't even live here anymore. Jeez.

Hung out with my daughter and her new boy friend tonight. It was a wonderful way to end an otherwise difficult day. I'm so glad they hung out with me tonight.

abaucom21: Do you drive in D, S or M & use the tap shift? I NEVER use D as it just hesitates, can't seem to decide what gear it wants to be in, shifts back & forth (worst in lower gears), surges a bit at times, hesitates like it has to say "are you sure you want to go faster" and I have to push the go pedal a little more like "YES!" It does much better in "S". Maybe you have much more than that going on but it sounds similar. It helped some when I got the ported throttle body and other mods. Hope you get it figured out if there is a problem beyond what I just described which is "normal" for these cars.

Just another day at work, nothing out of the ordinary (for mental health work that is - it is ALL out of the ordinary LOL). Have a good evening crew.

Not a V6/6L50 guy, but it sounds like something is slowing down engagement of the bands/clutches that actually make the shifts happen. Mechanical causes I can think of include be low fluid level, clogged filter, low line pressure, internal fluid leakage, partially obstructed fluid passages, or pistons associated with the lower gears sticking in their bores. I have no idea what the TCM control logic is supposed to be.

Does it happen no matter how easy or hard you drive it? Can it be assumed that the car is fully warmed up for any of your harder driving?

Does the tranny fluid look dark or smell like burnt toast?

Glad you are doing well Skipp. Yeah, I want to know where the fest will be already!

Had a busy day but managed to get all but one note done. Tomorrow a light day in Springfield and getting Ruby an oil change.. Then home to get ready for some Camaro club events tomorrow. Storms rolling through tonight but hopefully clear by morning. If you are in the path of the storms, stay safe!

Transmission checked out yesterday and mechanically in perfect order. However, there is a newer software upgrade. Yes, computer software. So they loaded the new software and the auto shifts much smoother.

Interesting. Odd that we have not heard about this on C5. We usually know stuff like that before hte dealerships do. I wonder if one would need to get the software upgrade if the car is tuned or of the tune would take care of it? Glad you got it figured out.

Good morning. The storms fizzled out before geting to us which is good so we just got rain & I slept right through it. I left Ruby at home this morning as roads are still wet & it is still drizzly. I'll go get her at lunch time & take her to get her oil changed. That way maybe she will remain relatively clean for tomorrow's car events & I won't have t come home & completely bath & detal her all over; just touch-up. Happy Friday & HAGD all.
