Jan, do not get depressed regarding your gym experience. Your gym sucks. In my 30s & 40s had gym memberships in different cities. First visit to each new gym in a new city staff met with me to do discuss an exercise program and how to correctly use equipment for best results. Did I say your gym sucks big time as they did not introduce you the equipment and instructed you how to use the equipment safely and for the best results!
If you really want to dedicate your time and effort going to a gym 3-4 times a week min. (for best results), you need an exercise buddy. Try finding someone at the same gym in your area (approx. same age give or take ten years) and help each other exercise together. Reason weight lost programs are successful when people have a support system and encourage each other. Did gyms in my 30s and 40s. I find workouts tedious and boring. Helps if you have a workout buddy so you share the experience and encourage each other. From what you told me about the gym you joined suggest you notify gym ASAP in writing, services not as promised, no introduction to equipment can be dangerous at your age. Of course they will say you signed a contact. Then you notify them without proper equipment instructions from the gym staff their facilities and equipment can cause you injuries due to your physical and age issues. Be forceful, it might take numerous emails (copy & print & document all emails and ALL interactions & experiences with the gym). From my experience they will release you from the gym contract because they do not want their company investigated by your state authorities. Jan, reading your posts you appear to me to be an energetic, young at heart attractive woman. Does not matter if you are in your 40s, 50s, 60s, one day we all hit a wall and feel old and helpless because our bodies and abilities change. Make the most of who you can be now and not dwell on who you were in past stages of your life. My Mom in her day was a beautiful fashion model in print ads and runways. I can look back now and see she started to loose self esteem when she was in her mid 30s. She was still attractive when she died her late 50s. But that was another era and time when people thought when you hit your 40s it was all down hill. I admit I have had personal physical image issues for 40 years because I work in an industry where physical appearance matters more than intelligence or creative ability. Did not matter that in my 20s and early 30s I also modeled for fashion print ads and walked the runway a few times. Sad but true in our society nice looking people have an edge. Sad but true but in my past, my appearance when I was younger, my look opened career doors I would never have experienced if I looked average. Sad but true sometimes having sex with people to bump up your career was a fact both in the past and today. Sad but true I recently had the experience of reviewing my past (expired) passports. Looking at my passport photos when I was in my 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, in retrospect damn I looked good. Now looking at my current passport photo in my 60s think I look like crap. Perhaps in the future when I am in my 70s and have to renew my passport photo, I might think I looked not so bad when I was in my 60s. I have been so insecure about my personal appearance for most of my life I have not let not anyone photo me since the late 1990s when I had to have photos taken when I became a speaker at international conferences. Now that I am in my 60s, just want to stay healthy. Of course I look in the mirror and think to myself who is that person. Mentally still in my 30s with a 30-inch waistline but the mirror indicates I am in my 60s, expanding waste line, and why do my eyes look so tired. Aging not so bad. Today, would not trade that 30 year old body for my 63 year old brain that is full of wonderful life experiences. Last edited by abaucom21; 09-06-2014 at 01:11 PM. |

Feeling better today. Amazing what some adrenaline & time with friends & car enthusiasts will do for you. I posted up some more pics to the thread. I got in a few more runs today & a couple more ride alongs in autocross. Tomorrow is emimination rounds. I want to just make it through one round so I get 2 runs at least but if it is only one & done I'm okay with that.

A dust storm and heavy rain in some areas of the valley kept me from going to a cruise last night. Spent the time working on some Chevelle parts I sand blasted earlier in the day.

A day working on car parts is better than a day at work! So is a day drag racing! I had a pretty good day. I made it through the first round. They put me against another female driving an SS with just a few mods (not sure what as she was not one I got to talk to). But she was in the same bracket as me - 14 seconds. So it was heads-up racing. No one got a head start. I beat her fair and square so I made it through the first round. I drew a heavily modified Camaro for the second round & got beat but it was still fun. I got to make 2 runs against the big boys on eliminations day & beat an SS so I'm a happy girl! I'm in process of uploading videos & will post a link to them here once done. There are already lots of pics on the LS Fest thread in the Pics & videos section. One of our guys won a plaque in the car show & one got second place in 5th generation Camaros drag racing. He lost in the last round to a Copo. Definitely no shame in that. Not sure yet if anyone else won anything. I did not stay for awards as my back was hurting after 3 days of mostly standing. I sure do dread going back to work!
Here is my first run in test & tune on Friday:

Keep up the great work Spike! I'm inching towards my "lost 40LBS" threshold, but not there yet.
Looks like you guys had a great weekend Jan. thanks for taking us along. Did my yearly oil change in the Camaro today. I put a whopping 1100 miles on it in a year, and the old oil was still had 87% of its life left. I have three vehicles and all three get an oil chage once a year. There are benefits of working at home.

Last week was first week of classes, easy as lectures just introduction to the courses. Back in the game which is good as I get to lazy during the summer. Feeling energized again working with a new class of students.
Today, Monday, had no classes scheduled. Good because I needed some time to rearrange the boxes in my home office. I am a box hoarder! My home office is stacked to the ceiling and decorated with boxes with the United Van Lines North Dallas Moving & Storage logo. At least all boxes same neutral earth tone color. These boxes packed and contents marked Dec. 2003. Many of these boxes have not been opened since 2003. Content labels now so old and faded not sure what I have in those boxes. I also have a large storage locker in the building basement full of stuff and have not looked into the storage locker for about 8 years. Believe it or not the owner of my cat sitting service has stored about $1,500 of my flattened packing boxes in her garage plus four boxes of silver & crystal stuff I intended to sell. Believe it or not when I moved from Dallas to Ottawa I paid United Van Lines almost $2,000 for empty packing boxes alone but it has taken me years to realize a horde of empty boxes are not collectables (lol). Thought I had edited before moving to Ottawa as I donated two full vans of clothing to an abused women's shelter for resale plus some furniture. Also just gave away stuff to Dallas friends because not much of a market for stuff like my 14-foot palm tree I had in my Dallas living room or other Dallas large scale stuff. In retrospect I still paid to move a few thousand pounds of useless stuff when I moved to Canada. New technology has required I address my box hoarding issue. My apartment building was designed as a state-of-the-art highrise condo in 1980. Therefore there is one cable TV outlet in the master bedroom and one phone jack in my master bedroom and one phone jack in my living room (no phone jack in the middle bedroom which is now my home office). Therefore, my current cable TV connection requires a single cable running from master bedroom, punched a hole in the wall through middle bedroom (home office and box storage) and punched another hole in the wall to my living room to connect to TV (connection comes out behind a wall of bookcases and into an old fashioned media cabinet where living room phone jack is also located). Cables in living room behind some massive heavy furniture that is bolted to the walls. So this Thursday changing to a new internet, home phone, & TV service provider that will be all fiber optic (whatever that means). Reason: My current service provider for 11 years can not figure out why I lost my on-demand channels 5 weeks ago and that is not acceptable after four on-site visits into my apartment. This new technology caused me to rethink my box hoarding, perhaps new wiring will have to snake through my home office to get to my living room TV. So today I rearranged my floor to ceiling boxes in middle bedroom/home office to better access cables I had so perfectly hidden all these years. I hate clutter. So I was able to de-clutter a little. Dumped old worn out shoes I have not seen in 3 years, much computer equipment that was state of the art 6 years ago but had replaced last year, and a few boxes of old vinyl records I have been dragging around with me since age 14. Realized last weekend I have held onto boxes of stuff for too many decades. Now understand that because as an Air Force brat we moved almost every year and I had over 30 addresses since age 18. Guess I just held onto "stuff" because I never felt a sense of permanence in any one place. Why unpack if you are just going to move again? The new technology and wiring to deal with this week, made me realize I am not moving again anytime soon as I have been at this address longer than anywhere else in my life. There is more stuff to edit and dump, perhaps in Dec. The new internet, home phone, TV provider with fiber optics going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday and good they scheduled five hours for the installation because think they will need those hours. I intend to play the old man card and say "too heavy for me to lift". But they know this is an old building, been trying to get a foothold into this building for more than eight months. Their issue, not my issue to move around my packing box collection and some serious heavy furniture. |

I can relate. Stuff does accumulate doesn't it? I don't have boxes in the house but there is stuff stashed everywhere.
It was a slow morning & a busy afternoon back at work. So I have computer work to do. I will try to download the rest of the videos in between. Good evening crew. Here is my 1st round elimination round run. I was pared up with a female driver in an SS probably with just a few mild mods as she was in the same bracket same 14 seconds. So it was a heads up run with no one getting a head start. I beat her! SSlayer rides again! And I got to run in round 2. Adding the elimination round 2 clip where I got eliminated but it were fun!

Every once in a while, I get in a "get rid of it"mood. I'll accumulate stuff and one day, I either trash it or sell it.
Congrats Jan. Looks like a fun weekend. We had the wettest day on record here in the valley. There is wide spread flooding in various areas of the valley. All I can say is; we did a good job picking an area that is high. There are no large flooding issues going on here.
