Diminishing returns, my foot.

it's 24+ freakin' %!

In the real world of racing, these two are separated by at least 10 zip codes!

And it's still diminishing returns.

If there was a 24% power/weight ratio difference on a pair of 8 and 9 second cars, they'd be even CLOSER.

The answer is staring you in the face, you can look away if you wish.

More excuses, damn just give it up guys. The fact is the ZL1 has other things that the GT500 does not have that should negate the extra HP. Two things that come to mind that your own people say are IRS, and magic magnets in the suspension. So stop making excuses, if the ZL1 wins I won't be claiming the des parity in suspension. Or maybe I should.

THAT is the difference between a V6 Mustang (3446/305 hp) and a 1SS Camaro (3860/426 hp).

THE VERY SAME!

How do THOSE TWO compare?
The power required to overcome aerodynamic drag scales with the velocity cubed.

I think it's pretty clear that at this level, the ZL1 has been brought to a sophisticated level of performance with IRS, Magnetic ride control, great traction control, and over all balance.....on paper, the ZL1 should clearly win at the road courses.

.....but it looks like now that the info is in, other than how people "feel" about driving the cars, the GT500 is equal in actual performance. Hopefully someone will jimmy rig some brake ducting on the GT500 and run a published Nurburgring time to shut everyone up. Until then, as said before, this 57%/43% weight distribution, Fixed axel, basic traction control(not used) crude, over powered shit box can put the power down and stick it out of corners just fine.

The issues to be improved would be slightly better corner G's (less weight in front) and brake ducting or cooling (no brainer). Great Job after all SVT!!! Erik

Check the other thread in the "ZL1" section. Since the ZL1 was claimed the winner that thread doesn't get relegated to "General Automotive/Other Cars" section.

We've had all types of professional and amateur drivers behind the wheel in races, practice and testing (including Davie Jones in 2010). I've seen many a good driver go out and get a great time in qualifying ......call it a hero lap..... but come in with the tires wasted so that he isn't competitive during the race (you have to start on the tires you qualify with) or they ran the car so close to or over the edge that the lap isn't safely repeatable.

So before I'm ready to declare either car the "victor" at a road course.......I need to see how each performs over at least 30 minutes of track time....and what do the tires/brakes/etc look like afterwards.
I'm not here to promote/denegrate either car. I like them both. I'm just glad at least one mag ran off a few laps to see how they might do in a day of HPD rather than simply post a hero lap.

The issue with a hero lap is break ducting or cooling and better materials which should be addressed by SVT, that doesn't mean you can write off the entire design of the GT500 as a one lapper. The breaks work well, but the cooling isn't.

That's like saying GM can't put more power down with the ZL1 with a shorter pulley and some internal reinforcement. Of course they can, and will I think.

So clearly the ZL1 is more sophisticated, but the GT500 is plenty able to over come the break fade element, and individuals are addressing it already making consistent laps with little break fade. Erik
